I was on short term disability. The first 5 days I had to use vacation or not get paid if I didn't have vacation time. Thankfully, I have plenty. Anyway, after that, the short term disability kicked in and I was paid my usual pay for the rest of the time I was out. Check with your employer to see if you have short term disability.

What do you do? I was back at my desk after a week without any problems and started traveling again after Week Two. I would imagine that a very physical job where you are lifting a lot of things, you might need the full three weeks; otherwise that seems really excessive to me. By Week Three I felt completely back to normal.

If your employer offers Short Term Disability this will qualify. Talk to the HR department. I am in Human Resources, so I deal with this stuff every day. Message me if you need help/advice on this and I will walk you through it.

Texarkolina,

Is the surgery considered elective surgery? That's what I'm worried about with my employer is that it will be denied because of that.

I had 3 whole days off, left on Sunday, surgery Monday and was back to work Thursday. It was NOT enough. I have a desk job and wanted to be anywhere else but there.

Why not try and get 2 weeks off and see if you feel good enough after 1 week?

Even though its elective it will ne covered. I believe the standard is 3 weeks off but I was extended to 4 and glad. This was not as easy as I thought and need more time to.adjust. those who went back in a week, I can't even imagine.

I'm not Texarkolina, but wanted to chime in. I too was worried about that. When I called my HR, the lady in charge of disability assured me it would be covered because they've paid others in the past who went out for the same thing. Sure enough, it was. Check with your HR Dept. to see if your particular employer covers it. If they say it's elective, you may be able to fight it with a letter of medical necessity from you surgeon. Good luck!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
