Hi ALL !

Lisa (Lcubed), I remember the weekend before my surgery (labor day weekend) and I was a nervous wreck. Since I did not tell a lot of people about it, I had only my husband and daughter to support me. YOU HAVE ALL of US to support you! You are doing a great thing that is going to change your life in ALL positive ways !!!!!

I will be looking forward to your post on here after your surgery. We can all meet and support you, Fran, Debbie, Chris and Sue and anyone else who wants to come!

I hit the 47 pound mark yesterday and I am feeling GREAT! And that is about 10 weeks! YOU GO GIRL!

I am happy and excited for you.

Sue

Hi !

I was banded in March '08 at NYU, but live in Suffolk county on Long Island. If you guys are thinking about forming a support group or just getting together, I was wondering if I could join you. NYU has a great support group, but its too far for me to go. It's the third Weds of every month and it's free if anyone is interested in checking it out.

Good luck to those of you being banded this week.

Christine

Hi November Buddies!

Wow, we have a lot of people on our board now....I love it! Welcome to anyone who I haven't officially "met" yet!

Christine: Hi! You could absolutely join our support group! I don't believe we came up with a day, time & place yet, but keep an eye out here on this forum for details to come!

Lcubed (Lisa): OMG, its almost Monday! How are you holding up? Listen, your going to be JUST FINE...we're all thinking of you here, all positive thoughts!!! Please keep us informed and let us know how everything goes! Good luck!!!

susancarole: You are doing soooo awesome, I am soooo proud of you! 47lbs in 10 weeks is just amazing! I hope I can do nearly as well as that! I can't wait for all of us to get together because I sure could use one of YOUR pep talks!!!

Sue & Debbie: Good luck to you guys on Thursday....we will all be thinking of you too! Can't wait to here how your doing! Good luck!

Well, I said I was going to start my liquid diet early (don't have to officially start until the 12th) so I finally did, TODAY! It started out rough...then wasn't too bad by mid morning...went to a baby shower today and watched everyone eat Italian food....thought I would die, but in reality, I was OKAY...it didn't even phase me because I had my Soup right before I left...when I got home tonight around 5:30 I was starving! Had one more soup and some more pudding. But I did realize that I sorta screwed up today...I didn't have ANY Protein shakes...just Soups, puddings, instant carnation Breakfast and a yogurt...so tomorrow I'm going to do this diet correctly and include my two Protein drinks!

Anyway, just wanted to say hello to everyone! Gotta go give my kiddies a bath! Have a good night and talk to you soon!

Fran

Hi Everyone,

Fran: Congrats on your good start today. What great will-power!

Christine: Congrats on your progress so far.

Lisa: everything will be fine. You are at bat and Deb and I are on deck.

susan carole: what great progress you are havving also.

We all wish we were there and the this scary part of awating suregery was over..

Surgery for me is the 13th. I am on liquids since the 7th and had a total meltdown today and ate half a bagel this am. I totally lost my mind like a crack addict I talked myself that it was no big deal.

Three more days of liquids and I am just so hungry. I hope the next few days get better.

Hi Everyone,

Susancarole, WOW, thank you for the inspiration. That is amazing, congrats to you!

Lisa, we will be thinking of you today! We are here for you.

Fran, you are my idol - first, starting liquids early and secondly going to a shower and being around so much food on the first day!

Sue, don't be so hard on yourself. This liquid thing is hard! I've been holding my self hostage here in my house since Friday so I don't have to be around food. So I can be a chicken and hide but you can't because you have a family. Hang in there! I never realized how much food meant to me, it scared me a little. PLUS there are a million food commericals on TV, it's torture....lol

Srinkinmom (Chris), that is a really nice offer! I'm in!

Lisa P and Christine, thanks for the well wishes!

Thank you all for your posts!

Debbie

Hi Everyone -

Lets send good thoughts Lcubed's way as she is probably having her operation as I type. I know she will have a successful operation with a speedy recovery. I send the same vibes to those of you having your operation on Thursday.

Sue--I definitely want to meet up. I can usaully sneak away on the weekends--either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning and sometimes in the late afternoons during the week. Let me know when you are coming out--maybe this weekend or next.

Candle--I saw the advertisement for those Cambell Soups ...they sound great. Doyou know if they are OK for pre surgery??

Hi Everyone:

Hey Sue and Debbie, good luck to you on Thursday! I know you will both do great!

Chris, I can come out to Sayville on Sunday if you want! I could probably get to Starbucks by about 2 pm and meet you for some coffee. Would that possibly work for you? Let me know!

And LISA, even though we know you can't read this right now, WE ALL know that you did great today! Can't wait to hear from you.....

Sue

I don't see why they wouldn't be ok. Like with any canned/processed Soup, just watch the sodium and carb count. Post-op you also want to blend the Soup if it has chunks.

Hey Sue: I'm not usually one that has alot of will power, but this time around I know I can't screw up, so I guess that's where my will power is coming in! Don't worry about the bagel....everything we are doing is a process! We can't be perfect, nothing is! I still haven't gotten down the whole drinking without eating yet....I try, but that change has been so hard for me to make! I can't believe your surgery is in two days! Your going to do great! You'll be in my thoughts and prayers....please remember to keep us posted!

Hey Debbie: Idol, wow! Never thought I'd hear anyone say that to me...LOL!!! At first I thought, am I NUTS to start liquids on the day of the shower? YES! I really needed to put my a-- in gear and just do this...stop wasting time! My first consult with Dr. Geiss was in eary August...between then and 5 days ago, I gained 6 1/2lbs! I wanted to try and drop those lbs, plus a little more, so I started early! 5 days on liquids and I've already lost those 6 1/2lbs! So I'm very happy about that!!! Good luck with your surgery...you will be in my prayers too! Please let us know how your doing!!!

I can't believe there is another Chris in Sayville who is banded. I too am in Sayville and I had to back track to see if it was me you were referring to. Talk about a small world. I don't want to barge in, but let me know if you want company at Starbucks on Sunday. I know I am new to this BB, so I totally understand if you'd rather get to know me on line first.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
