June Sleevers! Hows It Going?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved June 18th. I am down 24 lbs., 13 inches and walking 4 miles a day. Almost all pain gone, and I can sleep in any position I want now. Yea.

I was sleeved June 24 and I'm down 19 pounds. Seems slow! I don't know how people get in all the Protein. It takes an hour to drink a shake, and then I'm scrambling to get in enough Water before lunch!

I was sleeved June 27th. I have lost 35 pounds (10 pounds on the Pre-op diet and 25 more since surgery). I have noticed my taste and smell are different but wondered if it may be because I no longer have the intense cravings. It does seem like a full time job making sure I get enough fluids and Protein in. I had one week on Clear liquids after surgery, and I am now halfway through two weeks on full liquids. Next will be four weeks on soft foods. It is a slow progression but my surgeon progresses his patients slowly to decrease the risk of a leak.

It sounds like you and I are pretty similar. I haven't weighed myself in nearly a week, last weigh it was 33 pounds lost. I'm on mushie food now, and I can't imagine eating real food yet. My surgeon also progress his patients slow, and as much as my head wishes I could chow down on real food, I know this is the smart way.

I was sleeved on June 23 and I lost 20 lbs in the first two weeks then nothing! It is encouraging to know that I am not alone. I have a friend that was sleeved two weeks before I was (5 weeks ago) - she has lost 43 lbs! I think that's amazing but I don't understand it! I put my scale up today and will weigh only once a week. I was getting really obsessed and depressed. All in all, I am thrilled to have lost the weight!

Wanna pick a weigh day?

1 day a week we can weigh in together? Might make it easier not to weigh in between if u are part of a group weigh in, would take away the excitement!

What's the suggestion?

I was sleeved on 6/23 and have lost 20 pounds since surgery (34 from highest weight).

For all the "slow losers", are you getting in as much Water as you should? I've noticed that when i get my liquids in, I see a loss more often then when I don't drink enough.

Today I added gym exercise, so I'm hoping for a better number next week cuz I only lost 4lbs this past week and I believe it could have been more.

My mom didn't lose weight until she started eating solid food. She was so discouraged but as soon as she could take in a few more calories, her body stopped freaking out and the pounds started falling off about 10 weeks postop.

I was sleeved June 4th and have lost 33lbs but havent' lost anything for a week and a half and this week even gained a lb but I think that was due to sodium intake the night before. It definately a journey and not a race. This surgery helps you in that you feel full on very little food but it doesn't make the weight fall off unless you work at it by watching the food you do put in and by continuing to exercise.... eventually it will fall off, I'm convinced of that1

I am a slow loser too. I lost 10 on the prevop liquid diet for a week. I have only lost 12 pounds since surgery on 6/25. I went 8 day with no loss at first. Then lost 4 in two days and now have not lost in 3 day again. Some day I have a hard time getting my Water in but am getting my Protein in the form of cheese, cottage cheese and Protein Shakes. I'm convinced my body is rebelling because I average about 500 calories on a good day. Is anyone still having problems with swallowing? I get a lump feeling down my esophagus with soft foods as well as liquids. I literally have to stop what I'm eating or drinking to wait for the feeling to go away. I'm also discovering my sleeve doesnt like 1/2 cup. 1/4 cupboard about all I can tolerate.

Forgive my spelling. 1/4 cup is all I can tolerate.

1/4 of a cup is all I can eat at a time also. I was sleeved 6/29.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
