You really shouldn't be drinking anything carbonated after surgery. If you do you run the risk of stretching your stomach, not to mention how uncomfortable the gas bubbles would make you feel. I would say find another drink that you can really get into! I really like crystal light and G2.

To be fair every doctor is different. I would ask your nutritionist. My dr says that it is a myth that it stretches out your stomach. He said the theory makes no so sence. That if you get built up air you will burp it out...naturally. Although he did say if you drink pop you have a good chance of getting addicted again and for some it causes horrible gas pain. So he advices his patients to stay away because as he says if you were addicted to it before the sleeve chances r you will get addicted after..why take the chance.

If you look through the threads you will see some people on here drink pop everyday and do just fine and have for year or more. I ess craving a sprite so bad that I got a sprite zero and swooshed it around my mouth for awhile then spit it out...I was afraid I would swollow it and have horrible gas. That made me stop craving it. Also my nutrtionist said if you crave it so bad you can't take it then keep a can of diet whatever and keep it in the fridge. Just sip every couple hours. Lots of her clients do that. But like I said your doc knows what is best for you so if yours says no I would go by him.

PS...6 weeks we were told we could drink pop.

my surgeon said that 6mo post op I can do mineral/sparkling Water or the rare beer. No soda/pop because its generally bad and can be a "gateway" element.

Fresca is actually pretty good and it has no sugar or calories. Taste like sprite to me but it's carbonated so I would wait til you can have a carbonated drink but if you need a soda fix I think that's one to try but only after you can

I tried drink cherry coke about 6months after surgery. I will NEVER do it again. It tasted like poison. It was too strong, too sweet, too acidic. It actually burned going down so I had to chase it with Water.

Not a good experience at all. Not worth it.

As others have said, it's really your surgeon or nutritionist you need to ask. They have the final say so. My surgeon is of the "no soda" camp. I'll admit, I was a bad boy and tried a little soda. It wasn't bad, but it didn't taste the way it did before surgery. It wasn't like I couldn't do it, but it just tasted - well, bland. I didn't like it. I haven't had it since, but I do love tea, and drink a lot of that.

I was addicted to soda-- mostly diet and caffeine sodas. it was difficult giving it up at first, but I've gone 3 months now without drinking them--- except a couple of sips that made me burp so bad, it wasn't worth it.

I'm sure I'll be better off avoiding them altogether. I've heard sodas are bad for those who get kidney stones, so that's another reason to stay away (unless that's another old wive's tale).

Crush makes a sugar free drink mix. It taste just like the pops. I was told I could never have them again (pops).

My surgeon is in the camp of ~~~it wont stretch your tummy and its ok in moderation (diet only) after X weeks depending on how you are healing. I have been drinking diet coke since 6 weeks. I always pour it over ice to release some of the fizz in it. Sadly and weirdly, it is the ONLY thing I have found that does not give me raging heartburn/reflux. Even plain Water gives me heartburn. But always do what YOUR dr says!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
