Where's The Beef...i Mean Veggies?

Recommended Posts

Since joining this group I have been reading a lot of what people are consuming. I see very little vegetables which are important to healthy weigh loss especially green veggies. So what veggies are you consuming? I can have cooked green veggies at week 3 post op.

I think the problem early on is that we stress over getting in the Protein instead of having a "balanced" meal. I'm 7 weeks out now & was just allowed to have soft veggies last week. However, most of the time I have 2-4 ounces of meat & I'm full so I don't have veggies.

I remember on my dietitian's guidelines she had a thing that said that once I was 12 weeks out & back on completely "regular" food, a sample meal should be 2-3 ounces of meat, 2 broccoli florets, a tablespoon of rice (if room for it).

I would eventually like to get in veggies & do things a little more balanced, but right now I've been focusing on the Proteins.

The day I came home from the hospital my son and his wife brought me over a juicer. I get my vegies in by juicing them and it also gives me my liquid too. I cleared drinking the juice with my Doctor at my one week post-op.

I priced a juicer and can't wait to buy it when I am able to include veggies. They are too important to healthy living. Woman can not live by Protein alone! Lol

Just make sure you get all your Protein in and you can have all the veggies you can hold. They do take up quite a bit of room in the sleeve. Sometimes I eat Protein for my meal and then snack on veggies in between. Most healthy veggies don't have that many calories. To me, steamed or lightly braised broccoli, asparagus, brussels sprouts, zucchini, summer squash, etc are just as good as candy. You definitely do not have to give up your favorite foods after the sleeve. Your tummy will self limit what you can have.

This whole journey is not about deprivation, it is about control. Happy trails...Kathe

I'm 11 weeks out tomorrow and do include vegetables daily, even if it's just a couple of bites. In the morning I have low sodium V8 juice, and I add lime juice and tobasco to it. At dinner I always have a few bites of vegetable like summer squash, green Beans etc. I've also made zucchini squash squares and cauliflower pie from Eggface's blog. I cook for my family so there's always a vegetable. I also make a very small 1/4 cup of cherry tomatoes, sliced with some fresh basil, chopped garlic, a sprinkle of parmesan cheese and a tsp of vinaigrette dressing-yum!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
