This Entire Time I Thought I Was Alone

I didn't know that diet and exercise didn't work for everyone but I feel so much better now that I've found this site. I am still pre-surgery but am so excited to change my life for the better.

A little background for those interested:

17 years old and have been overweight my entire life. The most I've weighed is 320 lbs but currently weigh 282 lbs. I am a highschool senior on the varsity waterpolo team. I've played polo for 5+ years and it's my life. In spite of playing one of the world most vigerous sports and eating healthy, weight loss has ALWAYS proved difficult. Name a diet fad & I can bet that I've done it. Surgery is a last resort for me and I've never been more inspired, dedicated, hopeful, focused and driven until I knew what this could possibly do for me.

  • Yes, this is true! I hope my comment wasn't misleading - it's absolutely important that we eat right and exercise post-op or we will not meet our weight loss goals!

Welcome to the forum. I am new as well and this place have been very informative and supportive. Take care.

Mina is right. Start trying to make some of the changes now and the shock to your body and psyche will not be as, well, shocking. I can almost guarantee you there will be no regrets. I was 63 when I found the sleeve. I am so glad you will be turning your life around while you are young. God bless and happy trails to you...Kathe

Using the pre-surgery time to ready yourself is so important....mina is so right....

As far as age....oh my i wish the sleeve had been available when i was young... Been obese my entire life... Tried all the diets out there, lost weight and then gained more for years....became unhealthy and unhappy....

I turned 59 on April 24 and sleeved May 2, 2012...look out world, Sandy is being reborn!

I am SO glad you are taking control at your age... Good luck sweetie...we are here for you!
