My Nexium Is No Longer Working

My nexium is no longer working. I wake up with horrible heartburn and even though I take my meds before I get out of bed, it does nothing for me. I need to ask my doc about increasing the dose but my appointment isn't until July 3rd. Anyone have any suggestions in what I can do until then? I'm breathing fire over here.

So sorry to hear that! :( I haven't had that problem, but I've read other posts where people have had their Dr. change their ppi to a different one, and they've felt better...maybe you can call your Dr. and ask for advice? Waiting until July 3rd will be too uncomfortable!

For immediate relief take a tums but I would call the Dr's office - you don't want to be miserable until July 3rd.

Already called the doctors. That's why I'm posting here. I can not get into my doctor until July 3rd and he will not call me back.

I have been on omeprazole for a few years due to GERD - 20mg once a day. Since surgery I have needed to double that (after discussion with Doctor). I also switch between prilosec and zegerid which is also omeprazole but with some additional stuff in it. I'm not allowed to take swallow any pills, everything has to be crushed or opened. My prilosec is a capsule so I have to open it and put in in SF pudding. Anyway - some days the heartburn is very uncomfortable so I chew on tums which has the side benefit of getting in additional calcium.

I'll have to get some prilosec. I can swallow pills no problem. I'm just miserable these past few days. I feel like a fire breathing dragon.

Yes definitely try something else. Any one product is not one size fits all. I also use Prilosec and really is the ONLY one that works for me. I buy the OTC from Walgreens (generic) with added Magnesium. It supposedly helps with absorption and it really does! I haven't had any issues what so ever since I've started using this particular make-up. Anyway a little added Magnesium never hurt anyone anyhow. Electrolytes are always a nice idea! :)

All the best! I hope you will find something that works as well for you as what I've found works for me.
