Hi all. I am 22 days postop and just returned to work today. I was in pretty much pain all day at work. So much so I called the doctor to see if this is normal. The nurse said the "tenderness" I'm having is un my left side is normal. I couldn't seem to make her understand I'm not having "tenderness". I am in pain! I Hung up the phone with her to just keep using my heating pad. Here it is after 12:30 am and I can't sleep due to an intense pain, a pulling sensation in my left side ! My heating pad is doing nothing so I'm sitting in an extra hot bath which is helping a little.

Has anyone had such intense pain at 3 weeks out? Also, does anyone know if I could have done anything serious to my insides?

Thanks for any information.

Dang it! I keep losing my posts on this stupid site! UGH!!!

Anyway.

Keep calling your doc or make an appt. Don't let this go!

I've got severe left side pain in my back! When it's really bad, it radiates forward and takes the whole left side. It had gotten so bad yesterday that I called to talk w/a nurse. She left a message for him and he called me back about 6PM. He had me go down this morning for an Upper GI. Rad Doc says everything looks good. No obvious leaks but he'd know more later when he could look at it all on his computer. My doc was looking for a leak or an ulcer.

I think it's a pulled muscle in my back from over-compensating. Hurts more when I'm moving around and it's hard to find a good spot that does't cause pain in order to sleep. Even on a full dose of pain meds.

Don't let the nurse blow you off. Make an appt if you have too!! Take care an let me know how it goes! Hoping and praying you get some sleep tonight.

Thanks for your response. I did feel blown off today and I probably should have been more assertive. I just felt like maybe I'm being a wimp even though I've been told by more than one doctor that I have a high pain tollerance. The hot bath did help somewhat. It bright my pain down from around an 8 to a 3 or 4. I'm still not comfortable enough to fall asleep though. If my pain doesn't continue to to down, I might call the emergency line and see if they can call me in some pain meds to the nearest 24 hour pharmacy. Thanks again.

Thanks for checking in with me Mama.

I ended up attempting to go onto work yesterday and called and they connected me to the PA. She was awesome and she knew I hurt because crying a bit. She assured a lot of people hurt worse after going back to work and I had nothing to worry about as far as any complications. She called me in an additional medicine, Flexiril, to help with the muscle pain. She told me to take that, my maximium pain dose, some nausea medicine, put on a binder and use a heating pad and she wants me to do that at bedtime every night for awhile. I ended up leaving my office after an hour yesterday as I was dying in pain. I stopped by my pharmacy and got my Flexeril and came home and did what the PA said. Since I got home so early, I was actually able to take the meds twice. Today, I feel much better. I am going to take it way easy this weekend though and follow the PA's advice.

Thanks again for asking! Best of luck to you in your journey.

You know gas pains can make you feel like you are at death's door. It wasn't gas was it?

No, it was pain in my left side where they did the big incision and cut through the muscle. After getting ab additional medicine, I'm doing much better now. Thanks!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
