Healing Time- With Removal Of Gallbladder- Diff.? Or No?

Recommended Posts

I realize this would just be anecdotal but has anyone noticed a difference in what people say who have ONLY had the WLS vs. GB out same time?

I was told I had a hiatal hernia too once-- but this Dr. said he didn't see one during the endoscopy last week so he said he'll look again once in. (A nurse I know said they can go in and out).

Having HUGE gallstones is what started this journey for me.

Anyway, thanks for any thoughts. I've asked people in the past about their GB removal and found out it's no biggie, but not combined with this.

Also, I know a couple people who say after GB removal certain tastes have changed...so, hmmm, how would you know the difference whether it was from the GB or WLS?

Yes, I'm a dorky over-thinker but I like exploring things.

Great question! I'm anxious to find the answer too as my surgeon will be removing my gallbladder as well. I don't currently have issues with gallstones, but it's prevalent in my family, and if I can avoid that pain altogether, I'm in!!

I have had my gallbladder out via lapropscopically and if the healing time is the same that would be awesome because i was fine within a few days (pain wise). I didn't notice a change in my taste though from the gallbladder removal but i did hear you can have that from the WLS. Good luck!

I had both GB & WLS at the same time. I had surgery on a friday and that monday I was back at work part time. (office work) I was having gb pain and had gallstones. I had a total of 7 incisions but healed fast and feel SO MUCH better since the surgery. Its difficult to say if I feel better because of losing weight or getting my gb out. lol

Ha! That's what I thought I'd hear. Thanks!

You get so used to those stones causing stomach pain (and a high fat/cal. diet) after the combined surgery it would be hard to tell I guess.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
