My surgery is about a week away and Im wondering about pain management afterwards. Is lotab really as nasty as people says it is?? I REALLY REALLY hate liquid medicine. I havent had liquid medicine since childhood because the taste always made me throwup. Is their any alternative to pain management afterwards??

I don't know about alternatives, but it really isn't the worst. It's just like, half an ounce. Plus, once I was out of the hospital, I only took it for a day or two.

They gave me a liquid Lortab rx but I haven't taken any pain meds since they discontinued the morphine the first day after surgery. I don't have any pain, just gas!

My doctor prescribed me the same thing, but I couldn't keep in down in the hospital. They sent me home with a prescription for pills. I had to break them in half, but it worked.

It wasn't that bad, it was quite a small amount to sip. Did the job. ;)

Lortab may taste nasty, but not as nasty as the dye they make you drink for the leak test. The good thing about Lortab is that when you have stomach pain post surgery, it goes straight to the source of the pain and you are feeling good again almost instantly. If you have to, down the Lortab, then wash it down with something more palatable. Good luck......

Just ask your doctor about options. I had Lortab & it is icky, but I tolerated it okay. I know other people who have had other things post-op for pain. It just depends on the doctor.

You may not even need pain meds when you go home.

I AGREE! that stuff for the contrast for the upper GI was the most disgusting thing i have ever had the displeasure to drink!!!

when i took the pain meds, i usually washed it down with some diet snapple or crystal light! i too have over half of a bottle left. it is so nasty tasting i would rather deal with the pain than drink it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
