New Here! I Was "sleeved" On 5/9/12.

Recommended Posts

Hello Bean406,

I just had to respond to you and give you a Big WELCOME because my nickname is Beanie and I live in Houston. I was sleeved on May 8 th--just a day before you by Dr Marvin. I've heard of Dr Yu and understand he is excellent. Were you at Methodist or Memorial City hospital?

I'm still in the full liquids stage. Last night my friend & I went to Olive Garden. I ordered one of the cream Soups. Ate the liquid, not the chunks. I've also started eating the baby sized yogurt--the ones very low in sugar & high in Protein. My tummy still favors warm over cold foods. One of my favorite food -- inside of baked potato.

Wishing you continued success.

P.S. Don't know where you're stayin in Houston, but Jenni's Noodle House Restaurant has some wonderful soups.

I was actually at Park Plaza Hospital. I'm staying with family near Conroe and also in Katy. Thanks for the restaurant suggestion. My fav place so far for soups has been Panera Bread--lots of choices!

I found the best that worked for me was runny mashed potatoes. If it was to thick it hurt and made me feel sick. Krogers sales the Idaho potatoes in little microwaveable cups those are actually good.

Ok, so I just hit the 20 lb loss mark today since May 9th... don't know if it just feels slow but I feel like I should be losing quicker? I know we're all different but with as little as I'm eating I thought it would be more. I was stuck at 16 lb loss for like 4 days then dropped a little more. Feeling a little down today.

Today I am 5-weeks post-op and it feels like I've been at the 27-lb. loss mark for several days now. I'm kinda bummy tonight because it seems that other people have lost so much faster! I know I know everyone is different and there are many contributing factors as to how and why people lose more/less etc. Also, I spent a month post-op with family in the Houston area where my doctor is and last Friday I flew home to Montana. I miss my support system!! Also, I'm in the soft foods stage and it seems no matter the speed at which I eat most things feel like they are not going down smoothly and not drinking while eating has been really hard for me!! I am going to add in more exercise to my routine and just make it "the norm" as I'm sure that will help speed things up.

I am now 13 weeks post op and it's been a pretty good journey so far. I have been stalled again for the past week-ish. I have lost just under 60 pounds and though that's a lot of weight still feel like I'm "missing the mark". I think I need to pay more attention to sugar content. Also my hair has been coming out A LOT, which I know they said it could but at the rate I'm going I'm surprised I'm not bald! Going to add back in two Protein Shakes a day and be more consistent with my Vitamins and see if that makes a difference. Hoping the weight keeps coming off and that eventually my hair will be healthier than ever!

When you feel like this Bean. Post some before and after pics. You can see the difference and get a lot of support in the process. Also...are you tracking your measurements? Even if the scale isn't moving....doesn't mean your body isn't still changing. Hugs. You will get there.

Don't feel bad about the stall your doing better than me, I had surgery 5/3 and have lost 45 lbs. i lost 20 lbs before surgery , I have not had any stalls really, just losing slowly but steadily. I know I'm doing all the right things , low carb, low calorie , exercise about 5x a week, I guess I'm just made that way, but as long as that scale keeps going down I'm happy and I try real hard nor to compare myself to others, for example someone that was sleeved after me and has lost more weight than me ;-) lol!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
