Laxative/stool Softener W/o Cramping

So I'm still not regular. I'm 8 weeks post-op. I tried the stimulant laxative and get mild cramping. I tried to stool softener Colace thinking it wouldn't cause cramping and I woke up in the middle of the night with severe pain and spent a lot of time on the toilet
Any suggestions for something that won't cause cramping. I'm miserable
