1000-1400 Cal/day At 3 Months Post Op

Recommended Posts

Thanks all for your input. Ivy, I really like the idea of crock pot cooking option to make life easier.

As a side note, I have no preminitions for what amount of calories I will be able to intake in 12-24 months. I am learning this process just like anyone else and I am scared but now it sounds like others have been in this spot without problems so maybe I neeedn't be scared.

The truth is that I didn't get fat by one day deciding to eat crap so I can't imagine that in one day I will be able to eat perfectly healthy. It's about the learning process. I am trying to learn new tools so that I can make the most of my experience. I also don't know any other human being who has had sleeve done (except for my awesome sleeve sisters) so I like to learn from others on this site.

My huge underlying fear is that I won't be able to do "the work" that is required to make this a long term lifestyle commitment and right now I have as much help as possible with the restriction of the sleeve to help me push myself. I don't really know how much I should be intaking. Surgeon said 600-800 cal and my internist stated 1000-1200 cal/day. I am just so scared of failure and also so excited about how far I've come, I think I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. Yet, I know that focusing on that will bring me that.... maybe I'm in a funk.

Call a local hospital or surgeon that does WLS for a NUT referral- they should be willing to work with you even though you didnt get surgery from them.

I'm also at 3 months out (ish) and I could EASILY put down 1200 calories in a day if I wanted to. I can digest ANYthing, and my capacity for non Proteins is easily 8 oz. Maybe 4 oz for solid tuna or chicken. This scares me some days. My personal calorie threshold for weight loss seems to be 800 calories per day. Any more than that and I stall right away. At this point my doc also wants me to stay around 800 with 80 grams of Protein. (that never happens, as I would never eat anything BUT protein...) Anyway.....there's that.

Your answer lies in whatever the scale tells you. Someone who goes to the gym and burns 300-400 calories in a workout and is consuming 1200 calories is really only taking in 800-900 calories per day. A persons activity level is directly related to how many calories you should take in. If your losing weight then your on the right path. If your not then it's time to drop your caloric intake.

You have the nutritionist telling you one thing.... the doctor telling you another, and now everyone who answers this post 30 other things. Time to turn the voices off because only you can figure out what works for you.

My Doc just tells me I do a good job and keep up the good work.

I rely on my body to tell me whats right. If Protein shakes and sf hawaiian punch snow cones do it then thats what I do. If I feel good enough to experiment then I give it a shot and see how my body responds. But this is coming from someone that has no hunger.

Do you get hungry?

I'd say it lays more in whatever your body tells you. :)

scales are sadistic liars.

I am a year and a half out. I think you are lucky you can eat that much. You will still lose weight on that amount if calories. It may take longer but trust me it is a safer and healthier way for your journey. Count your blessings and be patient !

Ok, caveat that I am fully aware if you look at my MFP I've got a big problem currently...traveling and under more stress than I can remember having in years. So a real test to my ability to not soothe with food, and I'm currently failing.

That said....when behaving, I find my body lets go of weight more quickly when I eat between 1000-1200 calories a day. When I was down in the 600-800 range like the NUT wanted me to be, I had really really long stalls. I seem to creep down each week. Probably not as fast as it should, but I am super happy.

I DO still need to conquer the bad carb demon. I fully admit that. I'm not there yet.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
