Has Anyone Experience Hair Loss With The Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I'm on 3 weeks post-op and they keep telling me I should buy Vitamins for my hair. I haven't experienced any Hair loss til now I was just wondering if anyone has. That way I could buy the vitamins they recommend me.

I was told from the beginning to take fish oil to prevent Hair loss. I haven't had any hair loss but I'm not taking any chances so I take at least one mini capsule of fish oil per day.

Hair loss usually starts around 3 months post op. It will happen and there's really nothing you can do about it. I take Biotin and silica and that helps my hair grow back faster. It's for nail and hair regrowth. My hair stopped falling out at 6.5 months post op. I had no bald spots, my hair just thinned out. It does grow back and it's worth losing my hair to get skinny and healthier. ;) I love my skinniness!

Thanks for your reply. I will have to get some too then I don't want my hair falling off. I had just heard that it falls with the bypass surgery cause they don't have that much nutritious like the sleeve. Did u buy a particular brand or just anything that contained fish oil

Oh, your hair will fall out. But it grows back. I just went to a health food store and bought Biotin tablets and silica caplets. I asked the person working there which was a better one. they work great. I have hair growing in places I don't want it to grow and at a quicker rate too!. LOL

Oh, let me tell you, I'm so losing my hair. It's been happening for a month and a half, and it scares the heck out of you. I'm so lucky to have really thick hair, and I too thought, it wasn' t going to happen to me, but at 3 1/2 months out, bammm it happened. I still to this day, have a hand full of hair after each wash. I have normal thickness now, but if I keep losing it, I will go crazy. I take prenatio vitiems that I don't know if they help or not. It has to stop soon. I was told that people with really thick hair, complain the most, because they notice it the most. I have never seen anyone on here say they went bald, so that helps. PS, if that was one of the down falls of losing weight, I still would have done it. Good luck and peace to you Kathy

Do the Biotin and silica pills disolve or are they actual pills? I'm still not swallowing pills at this time. How long did it take you guys to use actual pills? I hate the pill crusher it makes the pills taste much nastier.

They are very small and can be taken with some yogurt or pudding to help them slide down into your tummy. ;)

From what I have seen/heard almost EVERYONE loses some hair. I tried to "beef up" my hair before the surgery and am taking GNC's beBeautiful supplements now with some added Biotin.< /p>

I lost half my hair and I told every single thing anyone ever recommended to me to prevent Hair loss.< /p>

Do a thread search on hair loss. This is a very common topic. There are many things people have tried, but none of it seems to do any good.

I'm pre-op I heard crushing up the prenatal Vitamins and putting them in your conditiair will help with Hair loss. I'm also taking biotin...I'm going to try that fish oil trick too! I'm going to get sleeved June 18th and I already have thin hair so I'm trying to do what I can to prevent major hair loss.

I'm pretty sure if it is going to happen,it will happen regardless what you do.. Mine started coming out about 4 months out. Continued till about 12 months. I tried many different Vitamins and minerals and supplements and hair care products.. I wore a wig for about 6 months. When it stopped falling out I started to use Intra Force by Redkin. recommended by a stylist @ Ulta. A 3 step treatment.AMAZING RESULTS.. Major growth in the first 30 days. Took the wig off. Still using the products. Not 100% yet but close. Only thing I wish I had increased my Protein from 80 to 100 gms per day. hard enough to get the 80 in .17 months post op. Good Luck, I could send you my wig. See my Facebook page for a pic.

The anesthesia alone can cause your hair to fall out. This morning I felt up to actually washing my hair instead of just standing in the hot shower to let the warm Water run on my sore back. I was kind of shocked at the amount of hair that came out, but I also realized that it wasn't "falling out" it was breaking off, so I am guessing the hair that was already damaged from coloring/bleaching before just had enough.

Wow now I'm really getting scared. I only heard it just thins out your hair not like enough to wear a wig. Thanks for the ideas though. I'm going to buy the Biotin

I wouldnt worry about it to much. In fact, I think the more you worry about it, the more it will fall out. Look at it this way, were all going to be skinny bald people. I would not waste a penny on any thing, just as soon as your body is not in shock, your hair will thicken back up.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
