June Surgery Pre-Op Diets Encouragement/vents

Recommended Posts

It is kicking my a! Day 3. This morning was bad! But I survived. Sipping on a shake now. It's gotta get better!

I'm right there with you. This is brutal! I'm having my serving of plain yogurt that I've doctored with a splash of almond extract and cherry extract with a couple of Splenda packets. I don't know if I'm just delirious or this really tastes yummy. I'm voting for delirious. LOL

Trying a cup of twinings mint tea w Splenda. The "head hunger" is messing w me a little today. I saw in another thread that a postop sleever found this soothing to her new tummy, so I thought I'd give it a try. Kinda nice.

Day 3 and 4 are the hardest days. I had a headache and I was off caffeine for over a month before I started my preop. I was allowed only 3 shakes a day and sf Jello & popsicles. I got no extra's like vegies boo. One thing that seemed to help me (and I swear to you, it helped me the day after surgery and every day since) is Celestrial Seasonings Peppermint Tea (decaff) and Truvia (for those that like Truvia) - I can't handle splenda, aspartamane or any of the other stuff. It seems to calm down the cravings and crampings in the belly. It was literally what I lived on in the hospital.

Today is day six of my preop diet. The first 48 hours were the hardest! My nut says to eat lettuce, cucumbers annd celery as well as tomatoes, but to keep carbs under 30gm. I am allowed nonfat creamy Soups and a teaspoon of Peanut Butter if i cant shake thehunger. I am taking the profect bullets to keep up my protien intake at 100+gm per day. My nut doesnt like them but they are easier for me, i feel bad that i am not following instructions but i am lactose intolerant and i can not see myself adding Unjury to my salad. I made a batch of Soup with the 3 oz of meat i am allowed for the week, i can not stand the canned soups, so i was so glad to see this thread and find that i am not the only one struggling. Love you all :)

Mina~. It was your post! I couldn't remember where I read it. Although my tea is another brand, I made sure it was Decaf. I did buy several other herbal celestial seasonings flavors. They do help with the cravings. I figured I may like the warmth and it can help me pass postop gas. Thanks for checking in on us. Our final week countdown has begun.

My official pre-op diet starts on Friday. To ease myself into it I started Lil Miss Diva's back to basics boot camp today. I wasn't that bad. Definitely had some head hunger and some real hunger as I failed to prepare for an extended time that I would be out of the house. But I made it! Let's see what tomorrow brings...

I am on day three. I am so tired. I am on two weeks full and Clear Liquids only. I can not tolerate any shakes. I am living on Isopure. I hope I don't get sick of it too fast. I am not hungry which is really weird. I figured I would be starving. I added up my calories today and I only had 360 which why I am tired I guess. But since I am not hungry I stop eating after I get all of my Protein in.

Have you started your preop yet? I start tomorrow' date=' but quit soft drinks over a month ago and have just been drinking Water, Water with Mio, a glass of sweet tea ever few days. I have had no caffine except what is in the occasional sweet tea. I have already started a couple of shakes a day and eating at supper time. Trying to make my transition as painless as possible. I cannot imagine doing this with a caffine withdrawal headache! There is so much info out here.....even more than my surgeon gave me. Not knowing what to ask, I have read so many posts, I now have questions for him! I've researched and researched for months now and I am ready to be sleeved!!! Preop tomorrow and surgery on the 29th![/quote']

I was moved from the 28th to the 29th. I am on day three. How is it going for you?

My preop started today! I need all the prayers and positive thoughts you can throw my way! Just the word diet sends my brain into cravings for foods I can't have!

Praying for you. You can do this. Just take it one day at a time. This is the beginning of an exciting adventure. We can do this!

I am on the 3rd day of my pre op diet

I have had a headache at 5 pm for 2 days now

has this happened to anyone?

Hi Sarah - I was so used to drinking coffee every single day (morning, afternoon, and evening) that when i learned that I had to cut caffeine out I switched to drinking Decaf. I immediately got headaches the day I switched. This happened for about a week for me and then eventually stopped. I'm thinking that this might be the same for you? Hope you are well and exciting news that your surgery date is coming up very soon =) ... take care.

The peppermint tea is what helped me with the caffeine withdrawal and it was my saving grace in the hospital with gas and pain. I swear when they bring the food tray they brought me clear hot Water in a coffee mug and a plain decaff tea and the Water smelled and tasted like coffee and it disgusted me. I had the nurses bring me a styrofoam glass with hot water and I did my own peppermint tea and truvia. Even cold it felt good. I usually sipped on that and water all day long. It's the first thing I drink when I wake up in the morning to take my medicine. It's the last thing I drink at night. If you don't like peppermint try something that honestly makes you feel good. I'm grateful I found this.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
