August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Recommended Posts

I am suppose to be starting my pre-op officially on the 23rd, however I am anticipating having a great deal of difficulty so I am preparing to start working on getting this down tomorrow. I figured

1. its not going to hurt to start sooner (may hurt me a great deal, but won't hurt my outcome)

2.It gives me a few extra days to try to get the hang of things.

3. This diet can make you come out stronger on the other side.

The cons/fears:

1. I will become moody with the extra days of diet (who am I kidding, your taking all my food away, moody is just the first step of things)

2.I will probably loose control of everything ( there is great fear I will mess up)

3. My kids may start looking delicious to me. (you know what if animal instincts take over..lol--lets hope I can keep the drooling to a minimum)

4. Moody has just been replaced with something much worse ( I start flying my broom about this time)

I am starting on Thursday full liquids. I have been eliminating one meal a day (or two) with Protein Bars or shake. Hubby and I went out tonight to the little local pizza shop for a salad and sandwich. So good! That was my "last meal", now on to the important stuff!!

If you need to talk or anything just PM me and I can give you my cell #.

I also found my sleeve sister with Dr. A. and have been chatting with her. All the support we can give each other will do us good,

TTYS

Did you contact Susan to find your sleeve sister/buddy? or did you happen to find her here. So far I have not seen anyone who is having surgery the same day as me with Alvarez. I was thinking about contacting Susan but wasn't real sure if this was proper to do. I know I am looking forward to meeting Icandothis, and am bummed that I will have missed you by a few days.

I appreciate the offer to chat. I don't talk a whole lot on the phone.. (i can be very shy on a phone until I get to know others) but I do text up a storm. Thank you for your kindness. I keep stressing over this diet thing, but I know this is just me and how I do things. I prepare myself for the worst so once I get there I see its not as bad as I imagined. But I don't want anyone to be surprised so I have filled my family in on my possible mood swings. My boys (ages 15-11) said they will just close their bedroom doors if it got too bad.. lol. My Oldest gave me a huge back-breaking bear hug and said he would help me through anything, and even cheer me up if I am down. They have a heart full of gold.

Yea when i shook it up it was. then i put it in the freezer for a little while and it was fine. It kinda tastes like watered down crystal light?? do you think so too or am i not putting enough powder in? hard to tell how much to put in. i didn't wanna put too much in.

That's a good idea to put it in the freezer for a little while. Mine tasted watered down too. I used the whole individual packet. I think I'll try putting more ice in it next time to see if that bulks it up some.

Have you tried Unjury? I bought some of those samples as well and I think it is better.

I am not a real good phone talker either, but the offer is there is you need it :) You can also text me.

I did touch base with Susan and ask her about the other person with my surgery date. She is not on this forum but I talk to her via text and Facebook. I told her that she should find her way here. Her BIL just had surgery with Dr. A a couple of months ago.

I know another gal that is going to Dr. A and she met her sleeve sister the same way.

I also asked her about the drainage tube and she explained to me why he does not use them and in what cases he would choose to put one in. I don't think that either of us would need to worry about it. No catheter either, we are not out for very long and they want you to get up and move asap. I have a small bladder, so I hope that I wake up enough to know I have to go in time.

Good luck tomorrow! We can do this......

Hey all! Well i messed up a bit yesterday and ate probably more than i should. I was up .6 from my last weigh in check (7/15) so today i drank only shakes. and i had 2 SF jello's . I ordered banana Protein (muscle milk light) and it came today....its really good. SO i have this in addition to my choc and vanilla...i also got the nectar samples. I tried the caribbean cooler ...its OKAY. not horrible...but not something i'd crave lol.

So- QOTD- what protein powders have you tried' date=' what will you use after surgery?[/quote']

Well I have not tried too many as of yet, whey protein vanilla from Wally world. I have only had it in a smoothie. I also ordered the nectar as well as the matrix sample. I have only tried one the latte, it too was ok. But I think it would be good mixed in an instant coffee with a splash of Torani sugar free Syrup.< /p>

I have samples of all the unjury except the strawberry cause they were out. I will try to let you know tomorrow if I try any of them or for sure in the next few days. I know you prob dont want to spend anymore money, but their samples are 1.99 a piece. To get them all (except for strawberry) cost me 13.70 I think which included the shipped too. I figured they wouldn't go to waste. Either I would like them and buy from them again, or I would hate them but still chug them down as fast as possible. Of course that is why I am trying them before surgery so that I can chug and not waste in the event they are nasty.

I posted this in the pre-surgery forum for others, but am going to post here as well. I find this helpful when wrestling with my inner feelings, and dealing with lack of support from family. Found it on Facebook and had to share.

Just a reminder for all of us to keep our heads up.

I feel like everyone on here is having surgery in Mexico with the same doctors! Anyone else in mass? Btw I have been using whey 360 protien from GNC. I have two big bags of chocolate and vanilla nd are making my own shakes. I like them enough so I have stuck with them. My favorite so far is a up of 1% milk, two scoops of chocolate protien and a package of no sugar added hot chocolate mix. Its like a glass of chocolate milk! :)

Hello fellow sleevers! Add me to the list... I am getting sleeved on August 27th! I am about half way thru reading all 29 pages of this post.. so much to read! But full of lots of good ideas. I am 39 years old and have been overweight the majority of my life. I have battled with myself for years about having surgery... Until I read about the sleeve' date=' I really just didn't see it in my future. I have lost weight in the past and was quite active... but in the last 5 years, I have gained it all back and then some. Since I know how it feels to MOVE my body, I just cant deal with all of this extra weight anymore. My 40th bday is coming up, and I decided enough is enough. My body hurts from the weight... I want to be able to run, rock climb, do a zip line.. all of that! I look forward to the reading all of your posts![/quote']

Welcome, Blue!! :)

Holy Batman! I had 42 notifications lol, glad to see that everyone is doing great today =) and welcome new comers. I am having a blech day...sitting on the fence wondering....so StormWarning THANK YOU for the pick me up. I still haven't considered long term goals, heck getting on the plane without throwing up is my goal at this point lol. My husband getting through homeland security is my second goal lol...ummm I ate like a pig today, that's probably a huge reason I am blechy...actually all things considered I was a reasonable pig. I had to rush to a meeting with the kidlets in tow. So we stopped at McRotten's I got a big mac and sugar free iced coffee...no fries =) does that count? I bought my kids their school supplies today, so now we can just veg the summer away and my responsibilities can start on the fourth of September instead of the mass shopping blitz that make sane women crazy and hysterical ....although, I must confess, I got more than one funny look. The thing is though, it was like a beautiful oasis, not a single other shopper to be found in those aisles. Sigh...what if I mess this whole thing up? This self doubt is like a slow poison...it is robbing me of my peace tonight, that's for dang sure. I am trying to keep busy, be on top of everything, but inside I am scared stoopid.(yes I know I spelled that wrong) I just read what I wrote...sorry for jumping around so much...when my brain jitters, that's what it sounds like. I feel sorry for my husband regularly for it lol. Anyways, I am going to call it a night, I have a specialist appt. for my daughter's feet tomorrow. I just wish my blech would go away. I need to find or make a list of the top fifty reasons I am doing this. yup, I think fifty is a good number, then by the time I hit number twenty I will be like oh wow...this IS the right path. I am NOT insane to dream that I can live to play with my grandchildren, and have laugh lines with my husband...sorry to verbally vomit on everyone tonight....sweet dreams jelly Beans =)

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
