Freaking Out Like Everyone Does (May 15 Sleeve)

Recommended Posts

I told the doctor today before I see him on Monday at 8:30 am that I do not want to die. He said he has a problem with death' date=' too. I hope that is true. I will let you know on Tuesday.[/quote']

I'm worried about dying more than anything. I know it seems silly.. but I'm terrified. =\

You've got a point there, Biggiesmallz. That would be the end of the surgeries!

When I was freaking out at my doctor last week, he predicted (rightly) that I was also scared to fly. That the truth is...once we make this choice and enter the OR, we have no control. So just trust your doctor and the good folks at the hospital and know the incidence of problems with the sleeve are minimal. 1% get a leak. And there have been no deaths associated with the sleeve.

Focus on my words:

1. You will be fine

2. You will no longer be a fat chick

3. The new way of eating will become like you have always done it that way withing 6 months

Questions?

One more question, MammaBear...

Can you put that into an audio file and send it to me so I can listen to it on repeat???

:)

Oh and for those of you worried about croaking on the table....

Think of it this way... the reason your Doctor has agreed to do your surgery is because you aren't a high risk to die because his insurance premiums would go through the roof. You have to trust that your pilot wants to land your plane as badly as you want it to land safely. Your Doctor has a lot of skin in the game.

I have been around LOTS of Bariatric patients (used to do help groups and seminars) and the only person who ever died was a 38 year old guy 575 pounds who drank a HUGE bottle of coke and a 26 of rum with it every day and lied about it. He died. If he hadn't lied, the surgeon would never have done the procedure on somebody like that. IF you aren't that big, or that dumb you will be fine.

SIgned, your on line Mom.

It is scary. It's surgery. But it's something you have to know you want. A week before we are all questioning our decision. Do I really want to give up food? Is this really the right decision? The answer is yes. I have dreamed about this for years. I finally jumped with eyes wide open. I can honestly say as they wheeled me back, I was as cool as a cucumber and it Was my husband who was crying as I consoled him. You'll do great, be fine, and all the other things you'll hear over and over till you wake up and you're fine. I'm almost 4 weeks out and not one problem. Think positive. No regrets :-D

I told my husband.....If I die during surgery, KNOW that I died happy attempting to give myself a new and better life. One way or the other, I would get it!! :D

NancyJerry, this is exactly what I did. By the time I got to the hospital Tuesday I was serene and confident. I'm here in my hospital bed awaiting release and really looking forward to the challenges of the upcoming 3 weeks.

This message helped me. I walked in there like trooper and just left my body in their hands. The funny part is that there were at least three other people waiting for surgery that day. One guy was all by himself. So at least I had support.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
