Hi puppyphat - Yes I had a feeling we were close in our stats - what does your dietician say. Mine says I will have to watch that I don't get too thin and if I continue to lose weight I may actually have to eat more!! I feel like I am constantly eating now so not sure how that is going to work!! As I said - I will cross that bridge if I come to it!

I keep reading threads about people having significant weight gain after they reach goal - I am at a loss as how that actually happens? I am not exactly being very strict on myself with what I eat - don't get me wrong, I do follow my rules on Protein and veges and fruit but if I feel like having a melting moment I will, and I still lose weight. Is there something I don't know about

and I am suddenly going to wake up one morning and start gaining kilos - I would hate to get back on that roller coaster again!!

I guess if I am totally honest and read over what I have just written I am a tad anxious about how to 'maintain' at one weight - or is that even possible?. Any ideas?

Then if you know what that is, say 1800 cals, you can consume in that ball park to maintain?

Yes you are right Dean. I guess what I'm struggling to get my head around is actually having to eat when you will have no desire to eat or aren't even slightly hungry.

Look I am probably jumping the gun here because it isn't a serious issue yet but was just wondering if anyone else had ever considered this or thought about how they would deal with trying to eat more when you don't feel hungry or empty.

I think I need to go back and have a chat with my dietician - like you said - just got a bit worried as I lost a kilo last week and that is quite a significant loss when you are already at goal - the dietician has already told me that a loss of 1.5 kg over 3 weeks at Christmas was a significant loss so 1 kg in a week has me a bit worried. Quite a few of my friends have asked me how I will stop losing weight and I have reassured than that eventually my metabolism will slow and what is left of my stomach will stretch a little bit so it will stop - now I have myself worried about when this will happen!!!

Talk about emotional eating - I used to eat to deal with my anxiety - now my anxiety is due to worrying about not being able to eat - go figure!!! I might need to take up those psychologist visits that I haven't used yet!!

Hi Sue - if you do go to a psychologist, make sure that they not only have the bariatric experience by therapeutic experience too. I saw the psychologist once that I got as part of my "package" and he literally gave me a tick and flick assessment. Not sure if it is because I am a psychologsit too that he decided not to waste his "precious" time in building that pesky rapport or engagement or something else entirely. Anyway, as it was my only experience in GETTING therapy (not delivering it) I was ....underwhelmed might be the nicest way to put it lol.

With your weight loss, my surgeon (when giving me goals to reach etc) said that the body kind of works out when it's lost enough and where it is happy, so not to sweat it. Now I am still 21kg away from her goal (and 35 away from my own) so I am not even close to worrying about this stuff yet but maybe if you're less anxious, things will settle. Corisol is the stress hormone and can be linked to weightloss - hope this helps :)

Thanks Liss - as always your advise is always comforting! Yes, my surgeon has told me exactly the same thing so I think I should just relax and trust that it will happen naturally. The psychologist is part of the whole package at the clinic I went through in Sydney so I would hope she would know the right questions to ask and strategies to suggest - anyway, I was kind of half joking - I am sure I will be ok with this - I really don't want to gain either! Just another challenge in the journey!

Hi Sue, your rate of weight loss has been amazing. You are only one month ahead of me and my starting weight was 107kg. I've only lost 26 kgs so far and have stagnated yet again. I've heard the same as Liss from my doc. Your body will slow down when it's ready however I definitely think it would be worthwhile having a further chat with your dietician at this point to get the professional support and reassurance. My dietician also told me that getting the right level of food intake for maintenance can be tricky. I am still 11kgs off my doc goal and 15 off mine, so it's a challenge I am looking forward to.

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't updated you guys sooner on my surgery! I had my sleeve done 12/2/13. Everything went well with the surgery and the surgeon was really happy with the sleeve. When I woke up I had pretty bad pain across my chest, so had lots of morphine and endone, so I was pretty wiped out that night.

I haven't had any problems getting my liquids down, the only one I have problems with is straight Water, so I just add a little hydrolite or diet cordial and it's fine. I have suffered really bad Migraines for the past three days, so I'm hoping that passes soon!

Apart from a little bit of tiredness I'm going well. The pain from the incisions is very minimal, so not a problem with that!

Pre op I was 111.8kg, day of surgery I was 106kg and today (day 5) I am 105.9kg. Not a huge weight change yet, but now that I'm home, off the IV fluids and the swelling starts to go down hopefully the weightloss will happen!

Thanks Kelli - I think 26kg is a pretty amazing loss too! How many people can say that they have lost that kind of weight in the last 6 months! :-) Please don't feel discouraged - I think the body is an amazing machine and we all seem to lose at different rates and even off different parts! I have no doubt you will get to your goal and then will be facing the same issues as me re maintenance. Yes - next port of call will be the dietician - I want to get my blood tests done first and then make the appointment.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
