Water=Foam? Suggestions Wanted For Tolerating Water...

Recommended Posts

I am 8 days postop and I'm on all liquids. Even though I can drink many different liquids without any reflux or problems... Plain Water still makes me cough up this... foam...? Its white and foamy and I was told post op it was just anesthesia but now my doctors concerned and I have to suffer through an Endoscopy (you know the camera down your throat...) Any ideas or suggestions what this is about or what I can do to make water more tolerable b/c if this doesn't improve I can't move on to soft foods and I REALLY want to move on... Not to mention that I live in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi which, as some know, is in the MIDDLE of the DESERT. So water's kinda important... Please HELP!!!

Can you get Mio drops there? I love them for changing the flavor of Water to something I can tolerate. Orange Tangerine and strawberry Watermelon are faves.

As far as the foam, it sounds like the slimes to me. Do a search on this site for slimes if you are not familiar. If it is, then it means you are drinking too much or drinking too quickly. Try taking it down a notch and see if that helps.

Water was hard freshly pre-op. I relied on ice chips for a while. While I could maybe do only 1/4 oz Water, I could do ice chips almost non-stop. Have you tried them, and/or having any luck?

Also, try varying the water temperature. The "foaming" happens with the lapband, too, and I know that for a lot of people tolerance had to do with the water temperature. I always did best with very cold water (and do with the sleeve too), but an awful lot of people (especially newly post-op) have to keep water at room temperature or warmer. When I'd have a new bandster contact me for help keeping water down, the first thing I'd do is ask if it was cold. Almost always it was, and almost always switching to warm helped.

HTH

I'm 5 months post op and still can't handle plain Water all that well. I drink a lot of Propel.. A LOT of propel! Black Cherry is my favorite. And the easiest/laziest strawberry lemonade ever can be made by dropping a few sliced strawberries into the lemon flavor.

Thanks everyone. I have slown down and adjusted the temp which helped a little but by far the ice chips are working. It was 107 degrees today and the ice chips were the best!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
