Well I come to just read as some listen to radio shows but never call. I just am tired to see this antiamerican when this world is in the shape it is.

What is the deal with the newbies registering just to post in this thread? :ermm

Seems like a waste of good ju-ju to me. :biggrin1: Go to other threads and make some friends, rather than concentrate so hard on making an enemy.

Chill. You can comment about what someone posts, but when someone comments about what you post you have a problem. Post hostile all you want.

Is it so hard to tell the difference between criticizing our country or its government (OK to do here) and calling another poster names (not OK to do here)?

Please remember the terms of service you all agreed to when you joined LBT, and refrain from insulting other members. This is the last time I'm posting a warning on this thread; next time it will be locked.

Oooh TOM! I like that, need to have both wings thing!

Yeah, I think it's quite a shame that more people know all the dwarf names than the names of all the Justices. It seems to be that more people are interested American Idol than American politics.

And as for communists, well, both sets of my grandparents were card carrying members of the American Communist Party. Both Grandfathers were very active in the Labor Movement in the 1930's.

Yes, when only one side of the political spectrum gets to express itself, we wind up in either the McCarthy scenario or a Nazi government. The Nazi's came to power based on fear of Communists and Jews. In this country today, they are scapegoating Liberals, peace activists and Muslims. Ann Coulter, the darling of the right-wing has called for all people who disagree with the BuSh administration, including the Democratic Congressman and other elected officials to be convicted as traitors.

What's next? Maybe to change the Pledge of Allegiance to Read:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag and the BuSh Administration,

one nation, one voice, under Jesus

with liberty and justice for all Christians in the right

Soon they may be trotting out Jeb to run for president in 2008. I guess if Jeb purges some history for Neil, then Neil can run in 2116 or maybe Barbara or Jenna can use a phony ID to make the age requirement. How about Jenna for President and Barbara for VP?

Yeah, I think it's quite a shame that more people know all the dwarf names than the names of all the Justices. It seems to be that more people are interested American Idol than American politics.

I wonder how many people know what the minimum age for a US president is?

And as for communists, well, both sets of my grandparents were card carrying members of the American Communist Party. Both Grandfathers were very active in the Labor Movement in the 1930's.
Shhhhh....Labor Movement: another bad word in 2006.

Yes, the cursed Labor Movement! Gave us such terrible things as weekends, health-insurance, minimum-wage, over-time, and all those other worker protection schemes that are designed to destroy our way of life....

I used the word "you" in it's most general sense. Do "you" think that if I change the name of the thread to "People get the Government they Deserve" and then make the linked phrase read "People get what they deserve", anyone will be happier or people will know any more about their government?

It was a joke.

Probably not. I missed the now apparent link to some other conversation, and am not really familiar with your writings, so I didn't get it. The more we learn of one another the more we learn to read the "tone" lost in texting translation. As I originally said, I just wondered what you meant by that.

Vines... as usual.. you crack me up!

I like your sense of humor.

I used to be right, now I am correct.:)

A country is like a bird or an airplane. They each need a right-wing and a left-wing to fly. If either wing is too big, there must be a major correction by the rudder or elevators, or the plane or bird will crash.

I personally think a country is like a good old cajun gumbo.

It has lots of ingredients, some you can identify, some you can't. Somehow the entire mess comes together and works.

As for getting what we deserve, very few people get what they deserve. A few people get what they think they want, but rarely does anyone get what they deserve.

Would 9/11 have happened if a democrat was in the White House? No idea. I can't say it wouldn't, I can't say it would.

Would we have gone to war in Iraq if a democrat had been in the chair? Again, no clue.

I see little value in pointing fingers at who did what, and what should have been done when it is already history.

Facts matter. We are in Iraq. 9/11 did happen. Whether either could or should have been prevented is purely academic. The best thing anyone can do now, is lobby their political representative and demand the action be taken that they think is appropriate.

The majority does rule (sort of - Electoral college system is a bit mad, if you ask me - speaking as an "outsider").

There, have my 9 dollars and 57 cents.

I'll tell you why we know more cartoon characters than Supreme Court Justices . . . the Justices don't have a cute little rhyming jingle! If they did, we'd all know their names.

(to be sung to the tune of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer)

You know Roberts and Stevens and Souter and Ginsburg

Scalia and Kennedy and Breyer and Thomas

But do you recall

The most blue nosed Court Justice of all?

Alito the right winged Justice ((Justice))

Had a very narrow win

If not for good ol' Dubya ((Dubya))

We'd have never let him in

None of the other choices ((choices))

Were conservative enough

To make it a Republican majority ((majority))

So they got left in the dust

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Then on Senate Confirmation Night

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Dubya came to say

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ."Alito with your ass so tight

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Won't you make our laws for life?"

Then how the nation shuddered ((shuddered))

As the right wing took control

And all the Founding Fathers ((Fathers))

In their graves began to roll

Well, you get the idea. It would have been better if I could have worked in that the majority of the population were too busy watching Dancing With The Stars to give a damn.

Alito who? More like, Alito? Who cares? Pretty scary.

Here's a challenge: Write a cartoon anthem to fit the current state of politics. Use any tune you like. Good luck.

The other reason is because the US Public and the News Media have made a deal (notarized by Satan?) to high-light non-news (or at least unimportant news and non life effecting) that has no lasting effect on the public other than to satisfy their thirst for gossip and speculation. Case in point: The JonBenet Ramsey 10 year old murder mystery and the nut case who claims to be her long lost and sought after killer.

The real tragedy is how much important news was bumped from TV news shows and pumped from the pages of newspapers. Many important stories which may effect the lives of the US public were pushed aside to hear about this maybe-killer or maybe-15 minutes of fame-seeker.

I usually spend a few hours a day watching cable-news. Yesterday, I taped 3 times as much as normal so that I could fast forward past the repetitive displays of this tragic 6 year old dancing in her parent's Quest to make her a star, to fast forward past the 7 and 10 year old interviews of her parents and the Boulder DA and police and to fast forward past the guessing of the experts.

Many years from now, people will not know what important bill George W. BuSh signed into law, or about the killing of the Afghan army's soldiers by US fire or about many other things that are happening, but they will remember about "that guy arrested in was it Japan or Vietnam(?) or, oh well some place over there".

All IMO...

Communism isn't a bad thing. Fascism is a bad thing. Too many people don't know the difference and lump it (along with socialism) into one big lump.

I've never spent a significant amount of time in a communist country, but I have in a socialist, and it was actually a bit of a breath of fresh air - literally and figuratively. :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
