Maybe Tmi But I Have To Ask...

Recommended Posts

Can someone please tell me if having problems urinating is common after surgery? Im two months out and use to go like a race horse, now maybe twice a day and I am drinking Water all day. I've heard about having problems with #2 but not #1, im having problems with both which is kind of scary so is this common or weird?

I don't pee nearly as much as I used to, which was a lot. I take now and did before surgery two diuretics to help control blood pressure, but I must not be retaining as much Fluid as before because the peeing is a fraction of what it was before. I attribute that to a heckuva lot less sodium in the diet.

Still, you might want to ask your doc.

I went from going twice an hour prior to surgery now I'm two weeks out and lucky if I go three times a day...also right after surgery I couldn't tell when I had to pee I would just get this throbbing sensation in my chest area and that would be my que to get to a bathroom...I'm getting about 50oz of Fluid in a day so I'm waiting to see what happens a month out...

Same here. I am 4 weeks post op and I used to go tinkle alot. Now not as much and I drink at least 60oz a day. As long as my labs are good, I'm losing #s and i am healing well, my doc doesn't seem to have a problem.

I thought it was just me, but I don't go as much either. And I don't have that full bladder sensation like I used to either. I wonder if my stomach was lying on my bladder...

I go through spells. A few days ago I was peeing every hour. Normal for me is 5-6 times a day. I make it a point to potty before I drive always.

Me too. I never feel like I have to go anymore and go infrequently.

OMG! I thought this was just me, too! I have worried the heck out of my doctors trying to find out what is wrong with me! All of my labs have been wonderful so they are not concerned. But I've only gone 2-3 times per day since around my 4th week post op. I also don't get a full bladder feeling anymore. I drink at least 64 oz on most days and have at least one Protein Shake per day. Glad to hear it's not just me!

I'm struggling with getting enough liquid in most days, but even when I do for a few days... I don't go as much as I did pre-surgery. And glad you asked because I thought it was just me as well!

I have the same issue and I'm wondering if we went so much prior because our stomachs were heavier and sitting on our bladders more.

I'm new to drinking Water, lol. I am a diet soda and Monster drinker. YUMMY. When I switched to water (still ICK) I always complained that I had to pee a lot. I was constantly reassured that it was normal at first but once your body is used to the water, you do not need to go as much. She promised! Also, the idea of stomach sitting on bladder and less sodium are great. I am sleeved next week so I hope this is true.

Also the decrease in soda, even diet, makes a huge difference!!! You should not normally be peeing that often even with good Water intake. Caffeine is a big diuretic, most people don't know that.... And when you stop drinking so much of it your body adjusts and you pee less.

I quit all sodas 6 months ago and after a month I noticed I didn't get up in the night any more. But also all of the other things too.... It all factors in!

Great topic...glad it was brought up. I too thought I was the only one with this issue. Glad to see that I am not.

I am 3 weeks post op and I have the same problem. I still go every morning, but during the day, I may go once or twice and that's it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
