So I start my liquid diet tomorrow and have my surgery on the 4/23 For me today is the end of one chapter and tomorrow is the beginning of another one. Needless to say I had to get my last being a slob moment in and just devoured a dozen donuts and a large coffee.

I was just wondering what was your last meals before surgery(not referring to life being over because of the surgery but one chapter closed)

I am inviting people to go out with me the day before I start my 2 week liquid diet... I think I am going to have my favorite finger food restaurant lol .. Famous daves....gonna pig out on their ribs and chicken...beans and rice and some Co'nbread... then I am going to have some cake or a brownie...

That is the plan for now. It may or may not change between now and May 8th. We shall see :D

I said that I was going to pig out in the weeks leading up to my surgery (or the pre op diet), but I have been doing just that... oh well...might as well leave this chapter with a bang right!!!!

I had a last meal before I did my pre-op diet as well. My husband and some friends went to Olive Garden and I got my chicken Alfredo...which I LOVE. I even topped it off with a slice of the lemon cake. I knew it was the last time I would have all that and I made sure I enjoyed it...lol. I don't see anything wrong with having a "last meal" as long as you are emotionaly ready for the journey ahead. My surgery was four days ago....and every day gets easier but it's not easy. The good thing is I don't miss foods yet as eatting anything or drinking anything is difficult. I watched my husband down a box of donuts and didn't even think about wanting one. That was pretty cool. I do miss flavors but I am sure by the end of the week I will get more foods in me that aren't just smoothies. Good luck with your surgery. I'm only four days out of mine and the thought of regret only came in once....when i was waking up from it all...only because the pain was really bad at first....since that thought in post-op...I haven't had one regret!!!

I had planned all these "last meals" but didn't get to go. It seemed the people who were supposed to go with me were more dissappointed than I was. I made up in my mind that once I got sleeved, on 3/21/12, I wouldn't let food bother me. When I get to the stage where I can have solid foods and basically no restriction, I will learn to eat in moderation. I can have my favorite foods again, just not as much. Yea eating a whole 12 inch sub the day before my pre-op would have lovely but I don't regret not doing it.

MMMMM I love Famous Dave's. I didn't get to hit them up before my surgery.

Anyhoo, my last dinner I went to Magianno's with one of my friends who is also in her phases of getting sleeved by her insurance. I had my favorite Lasagna and a margarita on the rocks. And I had a cookie for dessert. I was stuffed, I couldn't even finish my entre :(

I love that restaurant but hate going uptown or downtown..lol I always get them confused!!! But we went there for my sister's dinner and everything was included including liquor, we pigged out that night. Guess that is why I am the way I am now lol.

But hey, famous daves is gonna get it on May 7th!!!

SexySlim, I didnt realize you were so close to me (based off of your zip code). We are practically neighbors!!!!

I didn't really have a grand last meal, I just are whatever I wanted for the preceding month - if I felt like a KitKat or an ice cream bar, I'd just have one! Put on like 10 lbs in a month, lol.

I had Chili's ribs. Thinking that would be the last time for that kind of a meal. Well the other day I passed Chili's and thought "Wow, I still can have their ribs, it would just be like 3 - 4 meals now and it's protein!" But, I didn't even have the desire for them anyway. LOL -

I have to say, ribs were the single toughest food for me to eat post-sleeve. I'd be able to eat grilled chicken or a piece of steak no problem, but the second I swallowed 1 bite of BBQ ribs, I'd be in terrible discomfort. And that's like a year out! However, finally the last 2 times I had them, now that I'm 1.5+ years out, it was fine.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
