I am 22 mos out. At 1 year, I had reached my goal weight and lost 100 lbs.

I'm a month shy of a year out but have been at goal for about three months, down a bit over 100lb (292 down to 185-190,) I probably could have taken it lower if I wanted to, but I'm comfortably in the middle of the normal range (or fitness range, depending on the chart) on body composition even if BMI says that I'm still slightly "overweight".

I am 11 months out and hit my goal at 9 months out. I have lost over 117 lbs and I am in the best shape of my life. I take no medication for anything and before surgery I was Diabetic, had high cholesterol and a host of other weight related issues. I weigh 198 now and have been working to build more muscle for the last few months, it is going rather well. I went from a 52 pant size to a 36 and a 4x shirt to large and medium.

1 year 4+ months out. Did NOT make goal and am technically still overweight but no longer OBESE, let alone morbidly obese. My highest weight was 375 pounds. I LOOK thinner than my weight would indicate. I've always carried my weight well and am pretty certain that 170+ pounds lost is going to be it for me. So at 205 pounds I sit.

It's been a fantastic ride. Just had lab work done and the results were nearly perfect! Cholesterol is 133, triglycerides are 64. Blood sugar (fasting) is 88. Everything else is GOOD to EXCELLENT.

I've always HATED to exercise but now I swim 1.8 miles 4 times a week and ride my bike - did 9 miles last night! Not carrying all that extra weight around finally makes it tolerable to work out if not a little fun too!

This has TRANSFORMED ME TOTALLY. I am NOT the same person I was 1 1/2 years ago. EASILY the best investment I HAVE EVER MADE.

This is very motivating to me. I am scheduled to be sleeved on May 15th. I tip the scales at just over 400. From your experience, what should I expect? Do you all think that people with more to lose tend to drop more faster?

YES, being larger you should lose MORE faster at first that is. It not only requires excess calories to GAIN weight but also take calories to KEEP the weight on. So it may take 4000 calories to maintain a weight of (just throwing out numbers here) 300 pounds it might take 4500 to maintain 350 pounds. So when the caloric intake is cut post-op you end up cutting a LARGER number of calories out of your diet, and hence lose more, more rapidly. Until you edge closer to what you need to maintain your current weight, then the amount of calories UNDER what you need is less, and you lose less weight..

Im out 3 years and in my first year and a couple months lost 150 lbs. . . now i am maintaining between 200 - 215 lbs. . .and i can finally say that i am at peace with myself and love it. . . it's a fabulous feeling. . . .

No, I don't so. ;I think it has to do with genetics. If you lost weight easily and quickly when you dieted before, I think it is the same. I always lost easily when I put my mind to it. Just keeping it off was the problem! I lost very easily and quickly and reached goal about 9 mos out. I do think you will lose MORE weight overall

I noticed your hat I'm from Oklahoma and getting sleeved a week after u on the 21st in puerto Vallarta ith dr joya, how bout you?

Hi Rick - how tall are you? I am 5'8" and I weigh 287 and I was thinking a good goal for me is 180- I am a big boned guy .

I'm 5'10".

A small word of caution on how we evaluate ourselves at the start - a lot of the classic measures of frame size or "big-boned-ness" (which almost seems cliche to us when we're fat!) work OK for those in semi-normal weight ranges, but can deviate and change some when we are seriously overweight Our ribcages will contract some as we lose all the fat between our organs, and places where fat is not normally carried in "normal" people does carry fat in the obese. By the measure of thumb and finger around the wrist bone (just touch, overlap, don't touch...) I was a medium frame with my fingers just touching, but now I have some overlap - my fingers and wrist are skinnier than they were implying that I'm now a medium-small frame. On the other hand, my lean mass at around 155-160lb implies that I have fairly decent musculature on a not-so-large frame and 190ish pounds.

Another clue on this is that I have gone from a XXL helmet to an L (though in different manufacturers sizes, so that muddies the Water a bit.) So I'm not as much of a fat-head as I used to be.

If you can, it's worth getting a body composition test done (or buying a body comp scale, they cost around $100, give or take some depending on features) and use the body fat and lean mass readings as an additional guide to basic scale weight. That will help get you a better idea of what a healthy weight is for you. Mid teens on body fat % is a good "normal" number to shoot at for us guys, mid twenties for the gals (we have one ex-NFL guy in my doc's practice that got himself down to 4% BF - talk about obsessive/compulsive at the gym!)

      Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

        I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
