Though I haven't had the surgery yet, from watching YouTube videos, most people are recommending the Isopure, Amplify Protein Powder, I am currently experimenting with the Unjury unflavored and it's not bad at all! I usually mix it with a Jamba juice smoothie or Skim milk and through a banana in the blender. Protein Jello, protein water....Hope this helps! Best wishes, I get sleeved on May 1!

I highly recommend the Unjury and nectar brands. They are 20-24g Protein per scoop mixed with Water, milk, soy, broths, etc. To boost for more protein, I'll usually use 1.5 scoops. I like making SF Jell-O with the unflavored Unjury to boost the protein. You'll most likely be on clear to full liquids for a few weeks, depending on your doctor's diet plan for you. Everyone's doctor is different. Mine had me on fluids for two weeks until I went to mushies. Then it was non-fat Greek yogurt, small curd cottage cheese which I still use today. After about a month, I was able to introduce shrimp, chicken (breast meat), turkey, scallops, fish, and some of the lighter cheeses. Can't stand the Isopure and don't do many of the ready-to-drink mixes as most are made with milk and I still can't do more than 4oz of skim milk every few days.

I had a lap band in 05. It is off now due to slippage and will have VSG in June. I like Unjury Protein chicken broth and the shakes in the can from Trade Joes- Purified Protein. EAS isn't bad but two cans of the 35g protein from Joe's is less to drink and you get your 70 grams protein.

All just MHO...

In terms of types of protein:

Hydrolysate Proteins are the best quality Proteins (in terms of what comes in a mix).

Next would be whey Protein isolates - especially good because they come lower carb. For he slightly reduced absorption compared to the hydrolysate proteins, the whey Protein isolates are my first choice (because they're low carb, I think they're much better tasting, and are absorbed quickly.)

Read the can or the package and it will tell you if it's Whey Protein Isolate.

Here's another post with more information.

dietdirect.com is a great site for a variety of Protein items. I love the BariWise hot chocolates! I add unflavored protein with it to get 40 g protein for Breakfast

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
