betterthanbefore got a reaction from juicyr3d in Wish They Would Come Out With Something New Besides Sleeve. Why cant they just create a pill that expands in your tummy to make u feel full instead of the pill. Why can't someone come up with a true plan of meals to loose weight? So fustrated. Weight loss is so difficult.

Physically--- about 10 days after surgery. I woke up and felt like a whole new person.
Emotionally--- it took me a while. Probably by the middle of the 2nd month is when I started to feel better, stopped regretting my sleeve and feeling like this was a good thing instead of a horrible mistake I had made.

betterthanbefore reacted to Lissa in Top 3 Tips For Success1. Start exercising now. It doesn't have to be training for a marathon, but start walking and lifting small weights as soon as you can. You're building the habit into your daily routine, not training for that marathon.
2. Sip, sip, sip. Drinking Water is key, IMO, to losing the weight. Water hydrates your body and skin, fills up your tummy, and washes out the toxins and fat.
3. Get your Protein into your body every single day.
4. Forget dieting. This isn't a diet. It's a way of life. Get in the protein and your veggies, THEN worry about carbs.
5. There are NO good or bad foods. It's either protein or it's not. If I could find a chocolate that had protein in it, I'd do it. Oh, wait, I do... Protein Bars.
6. Eat on a schedule. This is important because we aren't hungry for the first few months. Forgetting to eat is worse, FOR ME, than over eating.
7. Avoid Cheetos!

betterthanbefore got a reaction from Jesusislove in Complications With SleeveI have decided not to get it. I was scheduled for tomorrow. Also, let's say that everything goes fine and there are no leaks with mine..they are still removing my body part that produces the most grehlin in the body which is responsible for memory. I dont want to hear years from now a study showing where alzheimers is typical in sleeve patients. Maybe i am exaggerating, but i am just gonna try to eat right and exercise. I do wish everyone else that is going through with this, much success and no complications.

betterthanbefore reacted to suzcomptime in Complications With SleeveThis was a hard point for me as well, (the tie in with memory and learning) as I have a job where I have to be on my toes about details and because I am also taking college courses. However, I also read articles about the possibility of a connection with obesity/diabetes and Alzheimer's. The article involved GB patients not VSG but it sounds to me that there is a Alzheimers risk if I don't have the surgery and cannot lose weight.
My mother and her twin sister are both insulin dependent Type II diabetes and have similar weight struggles to me. I am having this surgery because I know that the same is right around the corner if something doesn't happen. It seems like there is an increased risk of Alzheimers if I continue to be obese and develop the inevitable diabetes. That doesn't mean I don't rethink my decision at times. Each of us has to read and research and make our personal decision (and cross our fingers). Good luck to you.
Article about Obesity and Type 2 diabetes increasing the chance of getting Alzheimer's disease.

betterthanbefore reacted to aviiva in Complications With SleeveI was sleeved on 4/4 and have not had one complication pain was minimal I did not even need it after day one. I have not had any gas problems. I did not have any health issues and my bmi was 40 I have lost 16lbs since surgery. from what I have read most people have had ok experiences too. I like the protein shakes and have always drank water and not soda. I tried countless diets and got no.where due to low thyroid. this surgery may not be for everyone but the opportunity to live a full healthy life outweighed the risk I read about the surgery. even though I did not have health risks I knew they were coming

betterthanbefore reacted to DogBone in Complications With SleeveThis is a major surgery don't fool yourself. I'm 1 year and 8 months out and I got a gallstone because of the VSG and I don't want to go there again so I'm trying to avoid to loose my gallbladder with pills.
My wife cousin made her VSG 1.5 month ago, she had a leak and went thought another surgery after a week, this time a open one. She got lung infection and she is in the ICU for the last two weeks, she is on a induced coma and breathing with a machine via a tracheotomy. This is the same guy that made my VSG, and he already did 500 of them.
So this is a very particularly decision. My advice is to follow your heart. If I would do it again? Maybe not, I bet she whouldn't.

Just know that we are all here for you regardless. It did made me think of my cold feet as my wedding date approached 4 years ago, in every major life decision is normal to second guess yourself. This is a major life changing decision that only you can make, best of luck!

betterthanbefore reacted to WillowsKnot in Surgery Date April 16Th..does Anyone Else Share That Date With Me?Well, all you fellow April 16th sleevers.... Only 5 more days to go!!! ummmm...errr... but who is counting. LOL Every day I get more and more excited. I dropped another two pounds, so I am happy about that as well. So, while this liquid diet is not fun, it is fun to see the scale go down and I already fit into some of my spring clothes that I could not fit in before, so that has really made my day.
Here is to counting down our last days before we get to join the losers bench.

Tons of options. Obviously, any sort of fish, poultry, pork, beef, game meats, seafood. Dairy - Greek yogurt, leaner cheeses, skim/lowfat milk. Eggs, egg whites. And, of course, anything you can mix protein powder in, ranging from pudding to homemade banana bread.

betterthanbefore reacted to Tiffykins in Why Cant They Just Tie The Stomach Instead Of Cutting It Out Permanently?Because tissue needs adequate blood flow, tying off a large portion of the organ, and/or even just suturing and pleating it as in the plication is not giving the results as once promised.
Also, scar tissue forms, adhesions line damaged tissue, you can wrap a rubberband around your finger for a year and then take it off and not have any damage.

betterthanbefore reacted to MyVSG2012 in Does Anyone Have Any Regrets? No regrets! I'm 37 days post op, down 35 lbs, no acid reflux, no problems. You will find lots of people who haven't been through the surgery who don't understand and will think you are crazy, but listen to those of us that have. There can be complications, but don't worry about those, just follow your doctor's instructions and don't worry about the progress you make versus what others make. Your journey is your own.

Osteoporosis shouldn't be an issue unless you have severe reflux and end up on PPIs for the rest of your life.
