How do you get past the smell of the Protein Shakes? I can tolerate the taste but the smell is getting to me.

Hold your nose while you drink? Lol, I don't know. If my Protein Drinks have a bad smell to them, I've never noticed... Which ones do you use?

I use Unjury and it smells like baby formula.

OH, I AGREE! I found the best one that I absolutely love and have no problem with is Syntrax Nectar. They have about 15 or so different flavors and I had ordered every one of them prior to surgery! I found out real soon that the best ones are the chocolate Truffle, vanilla Bean Torte and the strawberry Mousse and there is no smell. You can use Water or milk but I am lactose intolerant now so I use water which tastes just fine. I add about 1 2/3 scoop of the powder with 1 cup water and 1 cup of ice in a blender and it tastes sort of like a shake. Good luck!

I use straws :) I cannot stand the smell and to this day (6 months out) often the Protein will make me gag the first few sips. It doesn't matter what brand/flavor (though some are worse for me) it is. I learned to just work past it, especially since I still can't eat my protein minimum.

Try blending them with more Water than usual so that they can be easily drank through a sports bottle with a cap. This should eliminate smelling anything with every swig. :)

I have no advice. I've never ever been able to tolerate the Protein Shakes. They smell and taste horrid. The ONE that I like isn't even all that good for you.

I hate Protein Shakes too, and I've tried both the Unjury and the nectar powders. To me they are very similar and have a yucky taste and smell. I prefer the Isopure clear drinks and Protein Shots to the shakes.< /p>

Using a cup with a lid that has a hole or spout for drinking helps. Not having your nose go inside whatever you are drinking out of decreases the smell.

The one I found, which may not be best but my NUT applauded me for finding one is called BoltHouse Mango Protein smoothie. I have tried tons of Protein and they all cause me to throw up, no lie. The BoltHouse Mango is my saving grace. I can't have it every day, but it does fill a need. Usually have one for Breakfast every other day....takes me about 2-3hrs to drink the whole thing...but at least I'm getting the protein. This is only an 8oz guide, I have 16oz's for my Breakfast.< /p>

I use my Blender Bottle to drink them, it has a small circle to drink out of and it helps with the smell.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
