Ugh The Smell

How do you get past the smell of the protein shakes? I can tolerate the taste but the smell is getting to me.

OH, I AGREE! I found the best one that I absolutely love and have no problem with is Syntrax Nectar. They have about 15 or so different flavors and I had ordered every one of them prior to surgery!

  • I have no advice. I've never ever been able to tolerate the protein shakes. They smell and taste horrid. The ONE that I like isn't even all that good for you.

  • I use my Blender Bottle to drink them, it has a small circle to drink out of and it helps with the smell. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Hold your nose while you drink? Lol, I don't know. If my protein drinks have a bad smell to them, I've never noticed... Which ones do you use?

I use unjury and it smells like baby formula.

I found out real soon that the best ones are the Chocolate Truffle, Vanilla Bean Torte and the Strawberry Mousse and there is no smell. You can use water or milk but I am lactose intolerant now so I use water which tastes just fine. I add about 1 2/3 scoop of the powder with 1 cup water and 1 cup of ice in a blender and it tastes sort of like a shake. Good luck!

I use straws :) I cannot stand the smell and to this day (6 months out) often the protein will make me gag the first few sips. It doesn't matter what brand/flavor (though some are worse for me) it is. I learned to just work past it, especially since I still can't eat my protein minimum.

Try blending them with more water than usual so that they can be easily drank through a sports bottle with a cap. This should eliminate smelling anything with every swig. :)

I hate protein shakes too, and I've tried both the unjury and the nectar powders. To me they are very similar and have a yucky taste and smell. I prefer the Isopure clear drinks and protein shots to the shakes.

Using a cup with a lid that has a hole or spout for drinking helps. Not having your nose go inside whatever you are drinking out of decreases the smell.

The one I found, which may not be best but my NUT applauded me for finding one is called BoltHouse Mango Protein smoothie. I have tried tons of protein and they all cause me to throw up, no lie. The BoltHouse Mango is my saving grace. I can't have it every day, but it does fill a need. Usually have one for Breakfast every other day....takes me about 2-3hrs to drink the whole thing...but at least I'm getting the protein. This is only an 8oz guide, I have 16oz's for my breakfast.

Get a cup with a lid.

I like the already made Atkins chocolate shakes, taste just like chocolate milk to me. Tried vanilla and was horrible. Used that for my 2 week liquid diet but havent been able to drink it yet one week after surgery.
