Well I am at home. Surgery went fine yesterday morning. Lots of pain in the left incision (where they pulled out the stomach) and having a hard time getting in liquid. I have to walk when ever I take a sip or I feel like there's too much gas in there and it'll come back up. Nurse said this is due to the hiatial hernia repair, and it should go away. I just want to get past this part, can't wait to get to eat soups! I am already tired of broth and popsicles. LOL

Just sips...I know, it's harder than I thought...so used to just drinking normal...after a couple of days, it does get easier. I have dixie cups with measurements on the side...also, I used a spoon to eat chips of ice and Water. Good luck....a couple of days makes a huge difference....my ankles are getting skinny.

Darn it - I should have measured my ankles before surgery!! Who knew that was the first place everyone would get skinny?!

Day 5 here and feeling better. But my tongue is a little fuzzy? Gross. My nut's goal is 100 grams of Protein and 48 ounces of Water a day. I have a full time job - drinking!

Jimmy,

My surgery is tomorrow, April 16th. Am on all clear liquid diet today. I followed this thread a week or so ago and shared my anxiety and indecision. You and many others were kind enough to give me feedback and pose questions to help me work through my worries. I am still scared silly, but am committed to doing this and living a healthy, forward-looking lifestyle. I will probably not sleep a wink tonight. Have to be at the hospital by 7 am. Surgery is at 9:30. Reading through this forum has helped me prepare mentally for possible post-op issues. My thanks to all the April Sleever's for their support, encouragement and sense of community. It has made a real difference for me. I will keep you posted on my post-op experiences. Best to all and save me a place on the loser's bench.

Hi All! The surgery went well on the 12th. I have to say the 1st night was rough....the doc gave me morphine for pain ... Only took two doses of 1mil. Was more scared of throwing up than the pain. I developed sinus congestion and ended up dry heaving the second night. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. By last night, I was feeling better. Still having trouble getting to sleep because of the drain but for the most part, I have no pain. Trying to get all of the liquids down. Not hungry at all. Hope everyone else is doing good!

Thank you for this idea - I started pouring all my liquids into one ounce cups and drinking them one at a time. Still not up where I need to be yet but got my broth, protien shake and Popsicle Down this morning. Still working in the water!

My surgery is also tomorrow morning. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30 in the morning and I was told that the surgery will start at 7:30. I forgot to ask them how long it is expected to take. Can anyone give me an estimate? Believe it or not, I am not nervous at this point. I just feel like I am sitting around waiting. I did all my pre-op. Made it through the mag. citrate... well.... still making it through that and hope that stops soon, and I am on just Clear Liquids yesterday and today. Lemon Jell-O, chicken broth and Water. That is about it for me. I know... exciting. Well, my best to all my fellow April 16 surgery buddies. May we all do wonderful and may we all get some sleep this evening. LOL

Sorry to hear it has been a bit rough. Hopefully, from here on out it is smoother! Glad you are out, and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
