hair loss is a worry, and it totally reminds me of one of my old excuses.

"I have to shower before I take my kids to school so I look good when I drop them off, then I don't want to come home and get all sweaty and have to wash my hair again!"

Haha! How lame is that excuse?! It's okay to be fat, as long as I have good hair. The things we tell ourselves...

Insurance approval came yesterday, surgery set for April 23 here in Michigan. I like the "food funeral." I've been calling it my food bucket list! I have a lot checked off but much more to go before preop diet diet starts on April 9. This coming Monday will be all you can eat crab legs. As someone else said, I'm more worried about the preop diet than the procedure! If I had no problem sticking to a diet, I wouldn't be in this shape in the first place. It's definitely going to be a challenge. And my beloved Diet Pepsi....I've had a hard time just cutting down, let alone giving it up. I really wanted to do that ahead of time..but it was not to be. I hope I'm not too irritable when the day I give it up comes. Maybe I should send my husband on a trip so he will be safe! Absolutely love this forum and all the people here! Good luck to everyone. Hugs - Joni

I agree. I had food breakups instead of the Protein shake diet. I was real nasty afterwards too cause I didn't think to give up caffeine.

Starting my preop diet today which consist of two Protein Shakes and 3 oz of Protein with a side of veggies absolutely no carbs for the next two weeks !!! The dr told me I had to lose at least 10 lbs prior to surgery so the pressure is on !! I'm confident I can reach that goal before surgery just getting anxious /excited about having the surgery I know these next two weeks will fly by. Having family come in from out of town this weekend so I know this will be a true test of how much I really want this it's gonna take alot of prayer and will from here on out wish me luck :-)

April 16 is my surgery date. I am super excited. I am keeping a positive attitude. I have read about the signs of complications and am aware of them, but not I am prepared at this point for when I come home from the hospital. I have already started the pre-surgical diet, by easing into the full liquid phase. I thought it might be easier to do it this way. I made my last "big meal" a night out with my daughter. When we got to the restaurant, I found myself picking something totally healthy. Tasted wonderful, but was VERY healthy and I found myself very mindful of what I was eating and how I was eating it. It was then that I really realized that I had already made a huge shift in my way of thinking and knew I was really ready for this. Oh, I had broiled fish, steamed broccoli and a small side salad, light on the dressing. I do sugar free yogurt for Breakfast, two Protein Shakes during the day and then eat a salad with some form of Protein for dinner. At times I have some sugar free pudding for a snack. That has been my ease into the full liquid thing. I have to do the liquid phase for one week before surgery and then three weeks after surgery before moving to pureed foods. Best of luck to all of us! Happy loosing.

Hey Krissy - I was going to complain about my preop diet (only 20 grams of carbs a day!) but yours is worse! No carbs and having to lose 10 pounds must look like a difficult two weeks - but at least we're on the home stretch. I hope your family is super supportive - good luck! We can do this!!

April 16'th here, unless something changes. I just met with the NUT yesterday, that was the last hurdle until the insurance gets involved, but I'm not concerned, the Dr. I'm using has delt with my insurance before and is confident it will all be good. I wasn't really concerned until the NUT pulled out those little 1oz cups and said that I would only eat two of them full for each meal, damn, that's like one bite now. I've only got to do 1 week of liquids pre-op but she said to start cutting back 2 weeks before to get a head start on it, it's gonna be tough!!!!!!! I'm still going through with it, just a little less sure of myself now. I'm gonna need some real "cowboy up" motivation from here on out.

That little 1 oz. cup is what kept me from pursuing the sleeve for another year. I was with my husband who had the surgery last year, and when they did that I was shocked and thought no way in hell could I ever do that. I can tell you, that's what it was in the very beginning - but it didn't take long before he could eat a lot more than that. Don't be scared of that.

I'm April 3rd and start a two-day liquid diet on my birthday, April 1st. My lap band is coming out and the sleeve is going in.

I'm not doing food funerals this time. I did that four years ago before my band went in. Those foods are why I'm in this mess to begin with and are the reason my back hurts and my knees hurt all the time. I don't want to gain weight now and add to what I have to lose later. I know those food are bad for me anyway, and I really don't want them anymore. Been there; done that.

I'm also not second guessing whether this is the right decision for me. I've spent the last 25 years losing weight and gaining it back plus more each time. I know without a doubt that I can't do it on my own. I might be able to lose weight on some starvation diet, but I can't keep that up, and so the weight comes back. This is the only solution for me. I wish I had been able to do this a long time ago. I feel I have lost so much by being heavy and by being ashamed of my weight. I am ready to eat to live instead of living to eat.

Best of luck to all you other April pre-opers!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
