Has Anyone Got The Surgery Through The Military?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery with Dr Payne on Thursday and it went very well. It was a little ironic that when I awoke in my room my nurse was Nurse Panic.... Dr Payne, Nurse Panic... I see some sort of theme going here! (Her name was actually "Paneesh" but it read Panic on her name tag!)

I had my band done in Nov 08 and went to have a re-eval done in Jan 12. I probably could have done it sooner but my life wasn't ready for surgery.

I am feeling great. Feel slightly like I was hit by a Mack truck but am moving well and only taking tylenol now.

This was an easier seeming surgery to me. I think I was in better shape than the original. I was up and walking every 2 hours and in little pain... thanks to the PCA I had little pain the entire time.

Congratulations, hirsandy!!! I'm so excited for you! I don't know what's up w Tripler Docs names... My husband had "Dr Foote" when he had his foot surgery. LOL

I will be sleeved in 2 days at BAMMC on Fort Sam Houston. I was required to 3 months of nurtition classes, chest x-rays, psych eval, 2 week liquid diet, sleep study, 2 support group meetings....

It's been a long 3 months, but I am finally at the finishing line.

Tripler used to require a monthly walking group. Don't know if they still do that. The hope was that during the waiting time you would become more used to exercise and set a routine. Hey, if you are in the Tripler area and want some fitness help, Dr. Verschelle (from Behavioral Psych) has free sessions with a personal trainer. I was given 4 sessions before my band and hired Kristy for my weekly trainer. I still go to her (she's at Schofield gym). I just emailed her that I thought the pain that she put me through weekly prepared me to be able to handle the pain of surgery!

Kristy told me recently that she didn't know why Dr. V wasn't giving more out... she is willing and ready to work with his patients.I just told him that I had heard of them and wanted them and he gave me the order for the sessions.

I had mine through Darnell Army Medical on Fort Hood. The beginning of the process goes quickly. Then you are put on a wait list. Don't pressure yourself on time because they can call anywhere between 3-9 months after you are waitlisted. I was on the list in October and got mine April 9th. Its good to wait a bit and get your head on straight and get into good habits in advance. Good luck and have patience!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
