Years Of Overweight=No Fashion Sense For Me

Recommended Posts

Hey sleevers!

I was sleeved 3/6 but I'm such an optimistic person that I'm starting to plan out my outfit for my sisters graduation in 3 months! I figure I've dropped at least 2 dress sizes by then, so that is what I'm working with.

I'm not sure what my sense of style is anymore, except I am almost 30 with a young daughter, so I'd like to look classy, laidback, and glamourous looks that are tasteful yet sexy and age appropriate

Now the problem is, years of being confined to a few stores and certain styles of clothing had turned me off from following anything fashion related. I hope that some of you can point me in the right direction as to what websites, magazine, stores etc I should start with when reestablishing my closet.

Hope you guys can help! I'm so ready to start window shopping!

I had the same issue and started looking at InStyle magazine--some cute ideas, even for me (age 49). I also like People Style. I looked at other fashion magazines and enjoyed them, especially Vogue, but I'm never going to wear that sort of thing and couldn't afford to even if I wanted to. :-) I like InStyle for practical fashion ideas.

Another thing I did was just go to the mall and look, really look, at stores I had never considered shopping in. I didn't buy anything for the longest time--I just window shopped. I discovered that I'm kind of a Gap girl--I like classics, comfortable but cute. I like Eddie Bauer. I like jewelry and shoes and red pants--who knew??? I think this is one of the most exciting things about being sleeved--getting to be on the outside who we are on the inside for the first time in decades!!

I like to look at new fashion. But I'm really a blue jeans type of girl at 56 and I want some really cute, sexy, blouses, to go with. We are all sexy! LOL ;)

I like vintage-y stuff - whether real vintage or vintage-inspired clothing. Check out ModCloth.com! Also, I do a lot of shopping at H&M. It only goes up to size 14, though.

The first clothes I bought were jeans from a resale shop...I just bought a size 14 jeans from JC Penney. I haven't been in a 14 for 30+ years! Still can't believe it! Good luck & if you do everything right, the weight will just fall off!

I LOVE InStyle magazine!!! Really great tips and look a likes on high fashion to affordable fashions. Also watching NOT WHAT TO WEAR helped me a ton as well. Also I am blessed to have a 15 yr. old daughter who gives me good tips as to what is in and trendy :)...sometimes tries to dress me too young, but then I just blame it on a mid life crisis and the fact that my 30's were stolen from me by being obese, and now I'm just catching up with fashion LOL...

Great ideas and I love that saying "getting to be on the outside who we are on the inside for the first time"! I will check out InStyle as soon as I get a chance. I've kept myself from really shopping or even looking at potential clothes because it used to depress me. I hated trying on things in the store and Would leave in a really bad mood, so I boycotted shopping for a while. Now that I've been sleeved and the weight is coming off, i'm actually looking forward to it!!

I LOVED H&M when I was smaller. I'll check out modcloth as well. Thanks!

LOL, I had a decade of my life stolen from me as well!! Good reasoning!!

smh!. umph! Neckrolling...side eye. No you didn't. Girl. Get in touch with me. I LOVE window shopping : ) We can hit up Wheaton Mall, Columbia Mall Arundel Mills--shoot Rockville.. Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.. People get a sleeve and act like they can't coordinate with somebody...lol

Kidding aside 1. You are going to be down more than 2 sizes by then. 2. Check out Youtube OOTD videos. I love watching people put clothes and colors together. 3. Magazines, Marie Claire, Vogue, Glamour, Essence (sometimes), O Magazine, InStyle.

I love that kind of thing. Know your body shape. and you can look up sites that recommend cuts for that body type. Undergarments are king and the proper fit goes a long way. Accessories! Dresses, Shoes! Locally I also check out Burlington Coat Factory-they have a lot of dresses this time of year.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
