Sleeved On 2/27/12

Recommended Posts

When I first decided I wanted WLS I thought the lapband was for me, and until I talked with my doctor (Hugh Houston) I was set on it. I am so GLAD I listened to him and got the sleeve. My highest recorded weight was 290. I'm sure I weighed more than that. I remember in October 2011 when my PCP told me I weighed 290 all I could do was cry. I had talked to my husband a couple of years before about lapband, because I have tried my whole life to lose weight and have had success only to gain it all back and then some. So what's I seen that number I knew something had to change, so I went to a seminar. The surgeon who's seminar I went to I found out was not covered under my insurance, he recommended HUGH HOUSTON I am very thankful he did. I had my sleeve done on February 27th 2012, I was walking the hallways a few hours after surgery. I went home on the 29th and then it hit I WAS STARVING!!!! My family was eating and I was starving, I thought why did I do this. Thank goodness this passed and now I'm loving my sleeve.

I weighed 271 before my pre-op liquid diet (2 days, I did 3) and weighed 267 on the day of surgery, I went for my 1 week check up yesterday and I weighed 249!

Sorry if this is all over the place I didn't want it to be to long. Thanks for reading my story so far...... I can't wait to lose more!!!!!!!

i saw my php last year and i weighed in at "too much for me" I was so upset I cried. i was all set for having the lapband done too. Went to seminar, doc suggested the sleeve. What?? i had actually never ever heard of the sleeve. Am I the only one...anyways..i'm doing so well w/my eating sinced being sleeved 12/15/11 - and i said to myself - wow, this is easy, i could have just done portion control!! eaten better instead of going through surgery et al, yeah, right!! That would have worked briefly like we all know, then i would have gained all of the weight back plus!! I'm so happy i got the sleeve.. Continued success w/the sleeve - i know i'm really happy. best wishes kathy

What's funny to me are the number of general practitioners and specialists that have never heard of the sleeve! And they were the ones telling me to consider WLS. When I saw my GP the other day I had to explain to him what the sleeve was, practically walk him through the procedure. He kept saying, "So it was a bypass?" - UM, NO!!!

So glad you committed and are enjoying the weight loss. Congratulations! I went through the yo-yo's the first month, wondering what the hell I did. And people I talk to still think I'm starving myself. Yet, I have good energy, I'm able to get through the days just fine, headache free, and happy.

its true, my php had suggested the lapband - well that basically was all i knew of except the "big" gastric procedure which i had no intention of doing. when the surgeon at the seminar supported the sleeve, i also had to explain the sleeve to my php - pretty funny :D kathy

I agree with your sentiments. I had my sleeve done on 02/29 . I didnt feel starving at first but the smell of food did get to me at first. I wish you the best!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
