Advantages
Taking whey Protein before bed allows your resting body to rapidly benefit from the amino acids it contains. Whey protein, because it comes from an animal, contains all the essential amino acids you need to include in your daily diet, especially when you are building muscle. The branched-chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine get incorporated into your muscle tissue particularly quickly, as they do not require metabolism by your liver, unlike non-branched-chain amino acids. Because your body repairs and builds muscle tissue during periods of rest, consuming whey protein before you go to bed supplies your recovering muscles with amino acids at that time.
Disadvantages
Despite the high-quality protein it provides, whey offers greater muscle-building potential when taken at times other than before bed. For example, consuming fast-acting whey -- along with carbohydrates -- prior to and following a strenuous workout not only helps to prevent muscle breakdown during exercise but also increases the rate of protein synthesis needed for muscle recovery and growth. Sports nutritionist Nancy Clark suggests that slow-releasing casein may be preferable to whey protein at night to allow a steady, gradual influx of amino acids to your muscles as you sleep.
Considerations
Taking whey protein before bed may not be the optimal time for maximal effect of this supplement; however, it nonetheless supplies your muscles with the amino acids needed for growth. Although nutrient timing matters for optimal fitness, the quality of your nutrition is also critical to meeting your fitness goals. In other words, consuming high-quality protein such as whey is essential for building muscle, no matter what time of day you take it.

bethp reacted to Mrs.Prisses in I Hate Me, I Hate Me , Ihate Me, Ihate MeChild, BREATHE! Relax...it's okay.
First...DON'T HATE YOU! God created you and he don't make no junk!
Second... Think about before you were sleeved...if that's what you ate in one day, you'd be like "Dang, I hardly ate today!" It's okay. Nobody expects you to be perfectly strict with yourself to where your living like an obsessed maniac (and the repetitive negative self speak and inner monologue is our red flag). So now, just stop and breathe and remember;
1- your NOT on a diet- you are living a healthy lifestyle complete with healthy eating choices and a realistic and healthy self image.
2- you are making progress and growing. Anything that's not growing is dead. Your fully alive, which means sometimes your going to put things in your mouth you may regret later...and that's okay! You will continue to do your best to do #1.
3- The sleeve is only a tool. You also have exercise, prayer and meditation, supportive community (VST!), and mostly ENOUGH LOVE FOR YOUR LIFE THAT YOU DID SOMETHING SO THAT YOU COULD LIVE IT IN A QUALITY MANNER...
So no more hating out of you, young lady!

bethp got a reaction from Felicity549 in Sleeved On 2/27/12When I first decided I wanted WLS I thought the lapband was for me, and until I talked with my doctor (Hugh Houston) I was set on it. I am so GLAD I listened to him and got the sleeve. My highest recorded weight was 290. I'm sure I weighed more than that. I remember in October 2011 when my PCP told me I weighed 290 all I could do was cry. I had talked to my husband a couple of years before about lapband, because I have tried my whole life to lose weight and have had success only to gain it all back and then some. So what's I seen that number I knew something had to change, so I went to a seminar. The surgeon who's seminar I went to I found out was not covered under my insurance, he recommended HUGH HOUSTON I am very thankful he did. I had my sleeve done on February 27th 2012, I was walking the hallways a few hours after surgery. I went home on the 29th and then it hit I WAS STARVING!!!! My family was eating and I was starving, I thought why did I do this. Thank goodness this passed and now I'm loving my sleeve.
I weighed 271 before my pre-op liquid diet (2 days, I did 3) and weighed 267 on the day of surgery, I went for my 1 week check up yesterday and I weighed 249!
Sorry if this is all over the place I didn't want it to be to long. Thanks for reading my story so far...... I can't wait to lose more!!!!!!!
