Flame Free Friday Confessions!

Recommended Posts

Eating and drinking at the same time? Fill up on sliders for dinner? Have an adult beverage too many or too soon? WHO CARES?! Got a confession that's not sleeve related? That's OK, feel free to confess it!

This is your place to confess without fear of judgement or flaming, so let's see what you've got!

I'll start us off... I am NOT a morning person and require at least two hours awake before I can be considered fully functional. Every morning when I get to work (8AM) I spend at least an hour screwing around on the interwebs and checking email before I even *think* about working

LOL Lilee! I am guilty of that as well! But not every morning...sometimes it's in the afternoon. I also drink 16oz of coffee every morning although that's more than I should have.

I drink with every single meal or I end up with this horrible choking sensation.

I can not wait until I'm healed up a little more because there's a plate of chicken Alfredo at Olive Garden calling my name. No, I won't eat the breadsticks. Yes- I will eat the hell out of the Pasta.

Well, as many bites as my sleeve will let me have anyway.

I don't have a sleeve confesion b/c I'm not sleeved until the end of the month. But when I had my lapband I certainly knew ways I could "eat around the band" if I wanted to. So a non-sleeve confession, since those were allowed too.

I like to watch horrible TV. My DVR is full of crap TV like Real Housewives, Pawn Stars, MTV (challenge shows, True Life, Teen Mom/16 and Pregnant), Supernatural, Jersey Shore, Doomsday Preppers, Vampire Diaries, Glee, etc.

Between my job, extracurriculuar activities, etc. my brain does not get a lot of down time.

When I come home, I want to turn off. I don't want to think. I don't want to strategize. I want to disengage. And I've found that crap TV is the best way to do that. It's the only thing I've found that requires no brain effort at all. Most people who know me are a bit shocked to see my TV list. :)

I have a sip or three of liquids when I eat - Not always, but sometimes. I cannot stand being thirsty. I certainly don't chug. It's hard because since I eat so slowly, one meal blends into another. I also have a few sips of club soda mixed with fruit juice on occasion.

It hasn't stalled me at all so far. I got the 3 week stall, but that is a Water retaining, glycogen issue. I have been losing about .7 pounds a day.

ive been exhausted for a week now due to the flu. This morning i picked up a 5 hour energy shot and chugged it down as fast as my sleeve would let me. I have had no caffeine nothing "bad" since my surgery but i just needed to get going, even though i know these arent good for me and who the hell really knows what exactly are in them.

My weakness is Pasta and Mexican food. Haven't had the Mexican yet, other than a tablespoon of salsa mixed in cottage cheese (YUM!) macaroni and cheese used to be my downfall. Before I was married, I was lazy. Could make the whole box and eat it out of the pot because I hate cleaning up after cooking and doing dishes. My husband came home the other night having picked up food from our favorite place that serves a la carte items: rotisserie chicken, steamed veggies, twice baked potatoes, and mac n' cheese. He got the smallest serving sizes since he knew I'd only eat part of the chicken and some veggie. I couldn't resist and ate THREE noodles of the mac n' cheese at the end of my meal. Tastes so good, but immediately felt that tightness in the tummy of "no more!"

That's exactly what I hoped my sleeve would do!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
