Today's my one-year anniversary, it kind of sneaked up on me. One year ago today, I had a sleeve gastrectomy, and now a year later I weigh about 90lb less (down about 42kg) and went from 40 BMI to 24 BMI. Started in size 18W-20W and am now in a size 6 or 8 trousers and mostly medium tops. I work out three times a week, walk to work and back every day, eat too much sometimes, eat mostly healthy most of the time, and enjoy my life. I could still be happy with another 3-8 kg loss, but I'm not sweating it. :-)

Thanks for listening...now and throughout the past year.

I am so proud of you! You have done amazingly well, and are such an inspiration to me. I have really enjoyed reading your posts over the past year, I think you have such a great attitude about this whole crazy journey we are on. Sometimes we do well, other times not so much, but this is REAL LIFE and we just keep plugging along! I can only hope to be as successful as you. Thank you for sharing yourself with us, I know I appreciate it!

Great work! I know you posted recently about feeling alone about being about 90 down around one year. I was 92 down on my one year anniversary and still made goal - just a lot more slowly than I wanted!

You've done a really great job and deserve to be proud. It sounds like we had similar weights although you're much taller than me so I bet you look even better at your weight than I do! ;) It did take me 6 months to drop that final 20 pounds but if you hang in there it will happen. I honestly didn't have to try very hard to get there, either. And now that I'm at goal, I find that my body keeps adjusting despite the fact that my weight is the same, so it appears our journey isn't quite over just because we hit our goal weight on the scale. I think I'm going to wind up losing another pant size by summer!

In any case, congrats again! You've done a wonderful job.

Thanks, my VST friends! You are all so thoughtful and kind with your words. I am not very good at sort of stopping to realise what I've done over the past year, what I've accomplished -- you actually have reminded me that I've done something very cool. I've quit smoking, had a major surgery, starting being much more active AND going to the gym, and lost 90lb. That's quite a year! I'm very grateful for it all. What a fun ride, no kidding! I'm so happy to have had this opportunity and am still excited to see where things go from here. :)

Swizzly - Congratulations! You have had a wonderful 1st year post-surgery. Wow - to lose this much weight and quit smoking!! Most people gain weight after stopping smoking, so you have really done a doubly-amazing thing. I know those last few pounds are frustrating to get off, I'm right at the point you are. But I think it is right to focus not "just" on the scale or hitting a weight by a certain date.

Are you doing anything to Celebrate your first year loss? I treated myself to a shopping trip to Chico's and some lingerie from Soma.

Best of luck on the next year of being a thin person.

Sharon

Hi Sharon -- thanks! We really are at the same point, aren't we. The last few seem to be a bit more challenging, but I'm sure they'll come off in time. I haven't done anything to Celebrate really, didn't occur to me. LOL. I'll have to think of something...

For the occasion, I am posting my progress pix including one from last month. I cut off most of my face purely from paranoia... ;)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
