Tricks To Taking Pills?

Recommended Posts

I finally got to come home! Yay! Thank you all for your kind words and prayers over the last week. It made sittng in the hospital bed at 2 in the morning a little easier :')

I am wondering now, if any of you have tricks to taking tablets? I am scared to swallow them! I didn't realize until last night that I totally forgot to take my 'happy pill' since Sunday (night before surgery, and I have terrible social anxiety so I need to get it going), and I am also staring at this bottle of Pepcid wondering how I will down it...? All of my Vitamins are chewable, but for solid pills do you just go for it, mash them, chew em?? Thanks!

Sabrina.

If it is a pill that can not be cut or a capsule that must remain intact I would take it with a spoon full of Jello. This helps to open your stomach a little so that the pill can enter easier. You could always ask the doctor for a smaller dose pill and take more than one for the time being also. If they are time release you could try one that is not so that it can be cut into smaller pieces. Check with your doctor or pharmacist on each specific medication as they are all different.

I went to Walmart and bought a spill splitter. I then cut my big multi vit into four small pieces that goes down super easy. Good Luck..

I still have problems taking pills (I'm 4 weeks out today!) and if I take them the wrong way I still throw up (like today). The way they go down and stay down for me is to take each one with a sip or two of Protein shake---and wait in between each pill for 5 minutes. then I can't drink Water afterwards for about 1 hr. if I drink Water I will vomit them. don't know why, but this is something I've learned after surgery about my sleeve----it's very sensitive at this stage

oh, and I have to split them into smaller pills with a splitter too

I am also worried about pills. I was on an extended release medication & I cannot take them once I get my sleeve. So I have to take 2 in the am and 2 in the pm. I wasn't sure how to take them!

I had to take an anxiety pill as well, I had to open the capsule and swallow all the little ball things inside. That one was easy. But on my way home from my surgery (had it in mexico, live in canada) a cough I had got worse and my breathing became painful. Went to the hospital as soon as I got off my flight and I had pneumonia. They gave me the childs medicine because it was liquid form, but my sleeve and tastebuds found it to be completely repulsive and even a small bit sent me into vomiting fits, so they had to admit me into the hospital for 3 days. They needed to give me the adult pill version, I needed to take it for 14 days. For those 14 days I cut the pills into 4. Worse tasting medicine ever but if I swallowed it quick enough I could do it. Luckily by the last 2 days (17 or 18 days post op) the doctor told me I could try taking the pill whole, it might just cause discomfort. Luckily for me there wasn't any discomfort and to this day I have just swallowed pills. I am 5 months now and I am able to swallow these horse size calcium citrate Vitamins.< /p>

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
