Post-Op Problems With Veggies?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any issues eating veggies since getting sleeved? This morning I made myself a scrambled egg with some diced green pepper and right now my sleeve feels so heavy and soooo full! Is it the egg or the green pepper? Anybody experienced this?

hey silly head (said with love!)

one day make the egg without the veggies, if you are fine - the problem was with the veggies.

best

I definitely think it is the vegs. I havent seen to many people on here have problems with eggs. But I agree you should try them individually. I personally cant do vegs without them being in a baby food jar. lol

I have a problem with eggs.... I agree with the above poster--do an "elimination diet" kind of thing. Try eggs without veggies, and veggies without eggs and see how you are. It might just be the amount you ate, too, not necessarily the type of food. :-)

Ditto on the "process of elimination" method. I have no problem with eggs, but I can't do most veggies yet (even in very small quantities). A few days ago I tried some tuna salad with a little bit of raw diced onion and carrot slivers. Sleevie was NOT amused.

Agree with others that process of elimination is what you need to find the answer. I see you're just a few weeks out. A lot of stuff bothered me in the first weeks and months that I now eat without a problem. If it's something I want, I try it again a few weeks or months later. I keep trying milk, but at my last attempt in December it still got me. I'm thinking it's time to try it again though because my understanding is that often lactose intolerance that appears post-surgery goes away again. I'd love to get back on non-fat milk instead of soy milk and add cottage cheese back to my diet. I don't really need the ice cream or whipped cream, so in a way, the lactose intolerance has worked for me :-)

I have been able to do some scrammbled eggs with a little cheese but I have not tried anything close to the raw side of veggies. I am about 8 weeks out and I have had peas, carrots, and green Beans but they have all been very well cooked and more of a mushy consistency. I never really got along with green peppers before surgery so I am sure that they will be one of the last things that I try and add to my diet. I too would try the process of elimination and see which one causes the problems. You can always try the one that you are having problems with in another few weeks and you might be able to tolerate it at that time. Best of luck.

Have tried onions, broccoli, zuchinni, cauliflower, leak, green Beans, chili peppers, carrots, celery == All fine. Can't really do cucumber. haven't tried lettuce or my fav asparagus yet. Carrot and celery were raw, but WELL chewed.

Thanks guys! I thought I had sauteed them pretty well so they were pretty mushy before I mixed in the egg but who knows. I'll try the elimination idea and see how it goes. I'll be very upset if it's the egg because I love eggs and could live off of them and chicken.< /p>

You can do broccoli and celery? They are both on my no no list .. along with pineapple, and other stringy things.. I am afraid to try them, and I want them so bad!

I was told to peal the strings off the back of the celery with a paring knife. Broccoli I do not find overly fibrous or stringy. Broccoli is my go-to veggie and I would miss it horribly. Asparagus would be fine as long as the tips and a little stem were eaten.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
