Aaaaarrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh! 2Lbs A Week?! Really?!

WARNING... :rant4:

Let’s see I am 8 weeks out today. I was 272 the day of the surgery and today I am 244. I know I should be happy that I'm losing weight not matter how minimal. But it finally got to me today that in 8 weeks I've only lost 28lbs! (Oh and I gained 1.2lbs this week!) I say ONLY because I've been going to the gym and eating what I'm supposed to, being good! I am so freakin sore from the gym! I knew I was going to be a slow loser because of my PCOS but I'm so afraid I won't ever hit my goal weight at this rate. I know that weight loss starts to slow down as time goes on. But what does that mean for someone like me that started off losing an average of 2lbs a week? I also know that weight alone isn't the best way to gage weight loss. Sometimes clothes fit better and weight stays the same. Well... that's not my case! (At least not enough to go down a pants size) I guess the upside would be that I'm not getting depressed and stuffing my face. Instead I'm getting pissed and need to work it off at the gym. :boxing:

We all need to rant from time to time :-) (((((((((( hugs)))))))) to you.

I feel the same way, btw... being good, doing what I'm supposed to and my scale hasn't budged in days. I'm heading to the gym soon (as soon as my husband gets home from work and tag-teams with me). I'm telling myself that this is a marathon, not a sprint, but I am frustrated too.

We can do this :-)

You are doing a great job. You should consider you may be building muscle which does weigh more. Instead of focusing on the negative be positive about your weight loss. That is 28 lbs that you maynt have lost with the surgery. Good luck

Agreed. I'm slowing down and think 2lbs per week is awesome compared to a big FAT ZERO....which used to be the case. Smile, you're doing great!

Have you tried switching up your gym routine? I know that can sometimes kick start things for me. But you're doing SO GREAT!! You've lost the equivalent of a 2 year old!! That's right, you've lost anough weight to make a toddler !! Say good bye to little Tommy!

(I know that's weird, but I like to equate my weight losses to tangible things. For example, last week I lost 2 boxes of Pasta :)

That is the recommended amount for any other weight loss program in the world. Remember dieting and wishing for 2 pounds a week...sorry it isnt more but it is going down and that is the goal....I am proud of you for all the changes you are making in your life.

That is over 100 lbs in 1 year, plus if you are working out hard, and building muscle, you will keep it off better. Plus losing it slowing is suppose to keep your skin from sagging as much. Keep up the good hard work.

I understand how you feel. I anticipated losing weight at a faster pace myself, but I am trying to focus on the positive aspect which is that every pound I lose will stay off forever.

All I can do is follow the rules and let my body release weight at the pace it wants to.

I second what NEW HOPE wrote. Look at the bright side quick might mean more skin later. Slow and moderate most likely will make all the difference later in how you look. I think it is a blessing in disguise.

It is hard to feel that now but if you know you are doing the right things by eating and working out, it really is to your advantage. Take pics monthly, I plan on looking back at all the NSV others have shared when getting discouraged. Soon you will be seeing those of your own. I am right behind you, seeing how my journey plays out.

Good for you girl working out so hard and eating right, it just a matter of time !!!!

At least you are loosing weight. If you come to a stall, then your most likely loosing inches and your body is readjusting itself. Anyhoo, this is where we are now and there is no going back! Keep doing the best you can..... ;)

Thanks everyone for letting me vent and for all the words of encouragement!

I didn't get fat overnight and I won't get thin overnight either. I just need to keep focusing on small goals and I'll eventually get to that big goal without me noticing.

From now on I will be proud to say :lost2lbs:

It's frustrating, and I'm glad you got the chance to vent and were able to take something from the cheerleading of others here.

We all want to be the person to hit goal in nine months. We daydream about our lives post op and want to be in those skinny pants ASAP but it doesn't always work that way.

It took me 17 months to get to goal. If you average out my losses I lost just over 6 pounds a month...that's less than 2 pounds a week, by the way! Goal is awesome no matter how long it takes you to get there, so try to be patient.

We all understand how aggravating that scale can be. We opted for a drastic surgery and want immediate, drastic results.

Well, I got the results, it just took longer than I wanted. And that's okay. I learned a lot on this journey and I think it was better for me to have the slow loss as it gave me time to do the mental and emotional work while I was losing.

Keep the positive attitude, because you'll need it in the months to come. It's worth the time and effort you put into this, and believe me - you'll be posting in just a few months about how you're more than halfway to goal. Every pound you lose now, however slowly, is one that's gone for good.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
