Its Your Period Dummy!

So i am 4 weeks out of surgery. Last weekend i started feeling this horrible pain in my back. Couldnt hardly straighten up and all i could do was sit with the heating pad. Finally after 3 days of the pain i call my surgeon. Nothing to do with my surgery, he told me to call my PD. After urine sample we ruled out kidney issues, gall stones, UTI. I was all clear but the pain kept getting worse and worse all i could do was curl up and cry or soak in the bath. Then yesterday mother nature visited me. 2 weeks early! I guess thats why we ruled out PMS because i wasnt due for weeks. I have never had pains like this before and my PD explained that my whole body and hormones were changing and i was basically starting over, all the changes are sending my cycle into a tail spin. Now next month i will atleast know whats wrong if i get such awful back pain. Has anyone else experienced changed in their cycle or PMS?

HECK YES! I didn't even HAVE one for like 4 years until the day of surgery. This week I was having the same issues; back pain, nausea and vomiting, and gained 2 pounds! The doctor said it was my cycle...not sure if I am happy its back...

I am glad to hear others are experiencing similar problems. I was terrific it was only me. I started my period the day after my surgery and it is a horrible flow. I havent bleed like this in years, it seems nonstop. I am concerned because of the decrease in calories and Vitamins which is causing me to feel fatigue and dizzy. Good Luck and I hope the pain stops soon.

My first cycle after surgery was awful! I thought I was going to bleed to death or die from the pain first. it has however went back to normal now and I am 5 months out. I'm hoping my recent gallbladder surgery doesn't send it crazy again. Hope it's better for you next month. :0)

I got my period 4 days after surgery and It felt like someone was twisting my ovaries. Pain would shoot from my right ovary to my ladies part. Every time I put weight on my left leg it was horrible. I never had such a bad period. Hopefully this is a one time thing.

YES, I hadn't had a normal period in 3 years before surgery. Then BOOM right away I get a flow from hell, and then another one 3 weeks later.

I visited the tampon asle at the store for the first time in years and discovered they made "ultra" absorbancy tampons now (one step above "super plus"). Let me tell you, they may seem like a good idea at first, but they swell up to the size of a baseball which makes getting them back out kind of tough.

Ahem... sorry, TMI. :biggrin2:

ETA: I think the period that came right after surgery was heavy because of the blood thinners I was on... I had the same thing happen after I had hip surgery before... but that doesn't explain Auntie Flo #2....

This made me laugh. Long and outloud.

I've been on my cycle for the last three weeks. :banghead: It started a week before surgery, stopped a full week after surgery, then gave me a break for a week and a half.

My cycle has been 28 days faithful for 11 years now. Since surgery which was on 11/9/11----I've been at least 3 days late each month. The first month was full of clots--but with each passing month, it seems to be getting better. Blessings2u--BJ

Ok....so this makes me feel MUCH better! I was sleeved on January 10. My regular period went off the day BEFORE surgery. I was SO glad that it came on before because I couldn't imagine dealing with that during and after surgery with catheter and so forth. Then a couple of days after I came home from the hospital, I went to the ER with terrible pain on my right side. I found out that I had a ruptured ovarian cyst. :blush2: Of all times?!

Well the pain continued and I started spotting last Wednesday. The flow has increased every day and I'm STILL bleeding. I wasn't sure if it was just a complication from the cyst, or what. But this is the MOTHER of all periods! I have had severe cramping, clotting, you name it! And my weight loss came to a stand still! I had lost 20 lbs since surgery and then the scale didn't move for 5 days! Today, I was down 2 lbs bringing my total to 22. I am SO ready for this to be over! But I feel better not being the only one with an unexpected cycle.

Oh yeah.... the horrid period ninja has attacked me too. My periods have always been bad but now they are bad to the bone. I have had three since surgery and they are intense. I get dizzy, tired, and cramps from the beyond. Not fun. My weightloss slows to a crawl for almost 2 weeks while my visitor is here. Blech.

I am also on blood thinner which I think is making it worse. This has made my recovery time awful!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
