I went to Dr. Garcia and had by band removed and converted to a bypass. For the price you get a small Mexico hospital, clean with a very friendly staff. I was most impressed because I have clotting issues how much time Dr, Garcia and his other doc spent looking over my medical history, asking for additional documentation and some other pre op tests. When I called and talked with Dr. Kelly all I got was just come down and bring the check. Didn't even want to know most of my medical history . I'm an LVN and wanted to make sure there was no surprises. I've heard from another forum that he has had several patients requireing having an open conversion rather than by laporoscopy.Worisome about this high rate includeing 1 that said she didn't know she had her spleen removed and he didn't tell her.yuk

The Above post is a plant from A Lighter me trashing Dr. Kelly again. NoJess, you are actually damaging your own companys reputation. Just stop- this woman is looking for real answers- not your Dr. Kelly scare tactics.

Barbie,

Either doctor would be good. Dr. Garcia performed my surgery and I am doing great. Changes have been made at the hospital and I am sure you will have a wonderful experience.

Think! If I was working for them how did I pass your husband with my IV in the hall. Ask him if a patient didn't say "Isn't time for coffee? " You have a right to your opinion and perception and I have a right to mind Yours seemed way way different from myself and others who I've blogged about Dr, Garcia. . Sometimes hormones and anesthesia gives patients and I've been one several times a different view from others. You were complaining about money when I heard your complaints in the hall. I've been on lap band talkfor 8 years and on thissite for severa lmonths.I didn't go with a lighter me I went with OBesity solutions an Judy as the coordinator. Bless you and I hope you have a good day, Jess

Wow, I who interviewed Dr. Kelly on the phone can't tell what I thought of the experience. I'm sorry you feel there is

a conspiracy that if someone that doesn't agree with you is an enemy. Dr. Kelly and other patients expereinces can be

viewed on several sites and am glad I viewed them before interviewing Dr. Garcia.God Bless.

NoJess,

You just joined the site yesterday according to your info on here. And if you are a revision from a Band to a Bypass, I am confused why you are on a Gastric Sleeve board, still trying to discredit a REAL patient and her recent experience!! And this is with Lacie clearly stating above that she would recommend Dr Garcia. What's the deal?

NoJess, what did Dr Garcia do about your clotting issues? Since you're a real patient and all. What meds are you taking now?

Llisa,

I'm having trouble posting so I'm not sure if my previous email got through. I take 7.5 mg of Warfarin a day and Dr. Garcia had me take/give myself a Lovenoux shot daily for a week prior to surgery and a week after.

In regards to the other questions. I've been on this site since it started but yesterday was the first time I went to post. It wouln't take the email I have so I switched to the sign in and email I use for lapband.talk which owns this site.

Re question why post/ I was scheduled to have a sleeve but when I got down there Dr. Garcia and I felt the RNY was the best way to go. As you know the sleeve is a restrictive surgery where the RNY is a metabolic/malabsorptive surgery.I'm a daibetic and even through I was sucessful in losing a100 pounds with the band, the 2nd band boom stopped the satiety effect and I was starting to

regain. I think we made the right decision even though the surgery took about 4 hours and Judy and Dr. Garcia did not charge me anymore.I had planned on going

to the RNY forum when I saw the post by the patient that was in the next room and felt the need to respond. The hospital floor I was on I think had 7 patient rooms so anybody talking loud is heard by all. As far as the comment that Dr kelly might be good or bad should come from a patient who talked with him or from a patient who uses him for surgery not banted around as fact. Not planning on continueing the debate because life is short and these are my observations. Jess

I wanted to say one more thing. I too had a drain. It had about a half cup full of serous drainage when it got pulled. Patients on my bariatric floor often have drains because there can be a fair amount of drainage left after surgery and you don't want a sac of this Fluid occurring under a port site. Jess

Lacie, you have been very clear, detailed and credible. Others, not so much. You did a great job telling all of us about YOUR experience there and this website is better because of it. Enjoy the rest of your journey!

Hi BarbieB,

Getting back to your original question. I had surgery with Dr Garcia Dec 5. I went through Successfully Slimmer, Christi, which is part of Obesity Solutions.

I had very little pain, even the gas was not to bad. Hospital MI was clean, the nurses were caring and attentive, did not see much of the night nurse so I can't really comment on that. Dr Garcia's team is very skilled with excellent credentials, his anesthesiologist works at an other hospital in cardiology surgery.

I was put up in the Hotel Pueblo Amigo, very nice Hotel with a casino. I asked for a room towards the back and on a higher floor so that the casino noise wouldn't be a problem. Their broth is really good.

My insicions have healed nicely and I feel great.

You will be in good hands.

Now I'm confused. In one post NoJess says she is a revision from a band to a bypass and in another she says it's RNY. Are both considered a bypass?

As for taking 7.5 warfarin a day, do you have clotting issues or is the warfarin for afib? I'm on long-term coumadin (generic for warfarin) therapy and I don't take that much, although yours may be higher because you're at a higher weight. I was actually recommended sleeve over gastric bypass because of the malabsorption issue. Because of clotting issues, I also had a filter/stent installed before and removed after surgery. The filter caught 2 clots, so it saved my life.

I still think that Lacie has been very clear and very fair in her postings about what happened to her at Hospital MI. She has not made any aspersions against Dr Garcia's abilities as a surgeon. I agree that she posted "in real time" about her experience in Mexico. Maybe it wasn't sanitized to the sweetness and light some wanted about the hospital, but it was her real and honest experience.

I can honestly say that I'd have raised cain had someone approached me wanting to reinsert the needle she showed. I actually cried before my filter removal surgery because they had such a tough time finding my vein. I had 6-8 sticks before they got one that actually worked. Had I posted that day, I'm sure people would not have liked my post either. I'm also certain that I was somewhat dehydrated on the day I had that last surgery, which made it more difficult for the nurses to find a usable vein.

BarbieB, I think you'll be well cared for when you go for your sleeve surgery, no matter which surgeon you choose. I also think that Lacie's experience and willingness to speak out about it will help others in the future.

Going back to the original question...... I had surgery with Dr. Garcia in Sept. Ive lost 58 lbs to date and had a very quick recovery. Very little pain after the first two days. I had surgery on a Wednesday and went back to work on the following Wednesday. Carebat the hospital was good and my documented germaphobe fiance even had good things to say. You can read more of my experience in my blogs. Good luck to you.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
