How Long Does It Take For Coordinator To Get Back To Me ?

Recommended Posts

@ShoeLover...When did you contact ALighterMe ? I paid my deposit about 10 days ago and I had the option of Dr. Kelly and/or Dr. Garcia among others. Interesting. But yeah I completely understand about the FSA.

Hey everyone - I just got off the phone with Trish! She asked me to email her my personal email address so she can send some information to me tomorrow!

She was in the car, on her way to the hospital to see 4 patients..We talked about a couple of things and I feel really good about my decision with Dr. Kelly!

I'll keep everyone posted with the details about making this party get started!!! ;)

I haven't sent my deposit yet, but I started talking to Linda about it a week or so ago.

I am going with Dr. Kelly and have been going through Trish! She is wonderful, you can even send her a text if you have any questions or cannot get a hold of her. If anyone needs to know how to get a hold her please feel free to PM me!!!

My coordinator is Sandy at alighterme and I had the choice of both Dr. Kelly and Dr. Garcia. I had to pay extra for a high BMI so I choose Garcia and he has worked closely with Dr. Kelly and uses the same facility. I paid my deposit and an additional amount (trying to pay it all before surgery) with my FSA. I emailed Sandy and she called me to do the payment over the phone. They bill it through their parent company who is coded to accept the FSA card. I've spoken with a few of Dr. Garcia's patients and I feel secure with using him. I wouldn't chance anything happening to me because I have three kids to raise. I would honestly see either doctor.

So I spoke with Ms. Sandy earlier tonight briefly. I have decided to stay w/ Dr. Garcia for good reason. I am not going to get into the details of our conversation bcos some might dismiss the details as just a smearing campaign. All I can say is we all need to do our research. Dr. Kelly is a great bariatric surgeon but since I have already paid my deposit I am going to stick w/ Dr. Garcia. I feel good about it after speaking w/ Sandy. Good luck to us all.

I went with Dr Garcia and found him not only to be a very talented surgeon but a very nice person as well. I have never had any contact with Dr Kelly and he was not a surgeon that I considered. I suggest that whoever you chose that you do your homework and ask questions. There were many questions that I did not think of until I had my surgery completed. I would want to talk to the doctor and ask how many surgeries that he has performed and where these surgeries are performed. Also I would like to know how many surgeries the doctor does in a day. How many lapbands, sleeves or bypass surgeries. I do not certainly want a doctor working on my that is tired and not at his best because they are trying to do too many surgeries.....even though the cost is less than in the US. Also what is the doctors success rate. Has the doctor had trouble with leaks, re surgeries and deaths from surgeries. These are just a few questions that most people do not take the time to ask and should. I know that if I ever go back to Mexico for any other surgery I will be asking these questions of my surgeon.

No matter who did your surgery I am sure that you think that the doctor is the "BEST".....this may not always be the case just because you had a good outcome.

I am having a hard time getting Linda to call or email me back. I am sure they are busy but I just paid my deposit online and I would like a phone call. I do not think its too much to ask to acknowledge payment by email or a phone call. I am getting frustrated and its making me nervous.

Hi 2bsmall,

You may want to email Ms. Sandy. She'll get back to you asap. It's possible Linda is super busy again. Best of luck. I completely understand your frustration :)

Thank you jewelado. I will do that. I am probably over reacting but I am nervous and so excited at the same time. I may drive myself crazy before I get there. :)

Oh I see. Is he cheaper than Garcia? Is there something that changed your mind about Garcia or a ligher me? This is a major decision and I do not take it lightly so anytime I can gather information I try.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
