This does sound doable. Can I ask a question on the fast day I realise that 500 calories is the target but do you take Protein levels into consideration at all? What I mean is do you have to get your protein levels as high as possible while remaining under 500 calories.

Obviously, for me, it is best to get in as much protein as you can to stay full but not worried about it. For example, I found that oatmeal works best for me for Breakfast with sting cheese snack and then chicken breast with veggies for supper so I do get protein and if you did eggs or cheese for breakfast you would get more. But, no, at 3 years out, I don't worry about levels so much other than carbs now

Do you wait 12 hours before eating dinner after having breakfast or do you use your 12 hours at night while sleeping? :)

Haha! I wondered about that too. On the forum some of the people talk about eating breakfast and then not eating all day?

I didn't get it!

I might have to give the 5:2 plan a try! I've not tracked my food in over a MONTH!!! Aaargh! I fell off the tracking wagon that I was on from Jan-May and now I just can't seem to climb back on. My weight is up (again) in my high range, whereas previously this year I had lost -9lbs just by tracking what I eat.

I'm going to support group tonight and will ask the NUT that runs the program what she thinks about the 5:2 plan.

I follow this blog and she has her own plan for those who suspect that sugar is a huge problem. I don't know how I feel about her plan. It seems like a great short-term solution but not for the long-haul. I would LOVE to see someone do a similar plan but actually eat REAL food not shakes. I did a no-sugar no-carb diet that was very strict and lost -17lbs (this is before being sleeved...like 2 years before I was sleeved) in 6 weeks. However, in 9 months time of eating "normally" again I regained +25lbs.

Anyway, this is Holly's sugar detox program (she used to post on here but maybe not anymore? There is someone else here named Holly Rose who has lost a LOT of weight but not the same gal as this one:)

http://www.300poundsdown.com/2013/05/my-sugar-detox-plan-and-beginner-program-for-weight-lossexercise.html

Here is another post about the evils of sugar (and while I don't think that I fall into the category of people who need to treat sugar like a drug) I like what she wrote and have thought about doing her plan. It's basically like Slim-Fast (shakes all day then a meal for dinner). I'm just not sure that I can/want to be such a nazi about my food.

http://www.300poundsdown.com/2013/06/sugar-addiction-detox-and-gaining-control-over-food.html

But just throwing this out there for thoughts/ideas. I'm definitely still fighting this battle and just not sure that I will ever be DONE! Aargh!

I believe that I will never be done with keeping my weight off. I see many people being consistent and successful. I am very thankful to you and others who share about fighting the fighting and preservance. So I'm just going to settle in and be careful of the foods I eat a long with Portion Control. We can do this! :)

Yep, you are right. It took me a LOOONG time to realize that this will always be my cross to bear (keeping the weight off) and that I will just never get to that place where I can kick back and eat whatever I want without gaining weight. Sigh. We are in this for the long haul!

No, you need to have at least one twelve hour interval. The originator eats at 7 and 7. If you eat at six and six that's great! I,myself, try not to eat before mid morning and then around 7 because I'm not quite sure if I eat EARLY that I won't be tempted to cheat! Lol.

For me, I just know I could never do shakes and be successful. I have to Chew! Lol. I'm trying to find something that long-term I can live with and that's why I'm trying the 5:2. You get to eat 5 days a week and I being very conscious of what goes in my mouth. Trying to make it "clean" (even though from all accounts there is no such thing!) healthy and very little junk. At almost 60, I KNOW this is for life. That many years of bad eating habits isn't going to give up easily! Lol

SO, I'm psyched and organised for my first fast day tomorrow, I will skip breakfast (I usually do) and instead of my cuppa I will just drink Water and make sure I take a bottle to work with me too... in a weird way I am looking forward to getting some control back - it's a mental thing as well as physical with me!

I've just downloaded the book for my kindle - in some of the reviews it said that you could fast 3 days a week? But for now, I will stick to the 5:2 and get into it.

Sadly I am at the top of my bounce range - and although my eating habits haven't changed dramatically, there have been a few naughty (bad me for using that word) days where I have snacked on the wrong foods; mainly carbs! it is my daughter's fault... she had a cooking assessment and came home with some delicious treats! How could I resist? The only problem, is that one day has lead to more - which, is unusual for me -M2G, I wonder if this is related to the sugar thing?

So, tomorrow is the day I take back control and, even if the scale doesn't move... at least I will feel better for making the right moves.

I read a book about a year before surgery called

"An anatomy of a food addiction" and decided to cut out all sugars real and fake. The hardest part was diet coke. But I felt so good afterwards! Even lost a bit of weight.

Well fast forward to this surgery and now my life seems to be full of fake sugars again..

I, at some point down the line will think about cutting them out again totally.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
