This has been an interesting thread. I am Tip and I live in Texas. I am married to a wonderful supporting husband and have one son age 16. My son has show cattle so we travel the state going to stockshows most of the year. We have 2 toy Australian shepherds that travel with us:)

My husband and I own our own biz - a home improvement company that keeps us very busy.

I have battled the weight thing since I was young - and in o7 I had a lapband put in. I was unsuccessful - needed to lose 100 and lost only 40. Gained nearly all of that back. So I was sleeved in September. I pray I am successful this time around! Well, that's my life and I look forward to the next year as I get healthier.

what a cool thread!! I'll jump in on this one..

My name is Angel. I am 38, single, no kids. I am an RN. I used to work night shift (7pm to 7am) in ICU and gained a ton of weight while working nights with lots of stress. Now I work in the operating room and have been considering making a change to work in Radiology as a nurse just for something different. I LOVE how flexible my job is!

I have amazing parents and brother and sis in law and a PERFECT niece and nephew. I also have a basset hound mix named Bert and 2 fluffy cats named Bubba and Bitty. I am a pretty hippie-ish. My brother teases me and calls me a "Birkenstock-wearing, tree-hugging dirt worshiper" hahaha I seriously think what the world needs is a group hug.

I live in southern CA and just bought my first house in January. I actually do NOT like living in southern CA at all but my family lives here so I do too although I REALLY want to move north to either Oregon or Washington in the next 5 years. I'm much happier when surrounded by trees and nature rather than all the smog and asphalt. Also I really like rain LOL

I had a severe case of Lyme disease (from a tick bite) that mostly affected me neurologically and I needed to use a cane or walker for about 7 years before doctors figured out the right combo of antibiotics that put me in remission. I've made a full recovery and having been through something like that makes a person very grateful and I'm super excited about life! I totally credit God for my recovery!

I was sleeved September 14th 2012 so I'm about 3 weeks out and down 27 lbs. I am SOOOO happy I did this!

Ok. Here goes nothing!

My name is Erin. I live in MD with my husband and daughter. We have two cats, PG and Gizzy, and I recently added a new member to our family, Tia, a cute pinto pony I rescued.

I have been overweight my entire life. I have been there and done that on just about every diet out there. They work for about a month and then, poof, everything plus some is back and its not going anywhere! Ugh!

I work as a receptionist/warehouse manager by day. In the evenings and on weekends I am with my students, giving lessons and riding horses.

After years of trying and failing, I have decided the best thing for myself and my family is to have the surgery. My doctors agree as I also have PCOS, High blood pressure, severe acid reflux, asthma and quite possibly sleep apnea.

I have not had the surgery yet, I start my nutritional support group classes next week, so I am 6 months out or so. I am excited and nervous all at the same time.

I just want to be healthy.

This is a cool thread! My name is Susan, and I am going to be 36 in November. I adore documentaries and reality TV shows. I am filling out my application for a documentary film school certificate program that starts in January. I had a severely messed up childhood, but managed to stay away from drugs and actually graduate from college in 2000. I am very outgoing so being in sales and marketing comes naturally to me, but what I realize now is that I always had a passion for film at a young age that was never nurtured. I had to raise myself and started in the work force at 14...been working ever since. When you work and go to school or work all day there really is no room left for you at the end of the day. I have been saving $400 a week, living in a terrible apartment and not spending any money because in one year I am quitting working for someone else and going to blaze a trail through life doing something other than being a corporate zombie. We should not be working 40 hours a week only to have 2 weeks of vacation - it is sickening. No wonder we are all fat and stressed. Thanks for letting me share!

I am a 35 yo mother of three living in suburban Detroit. I am scheduled for surgery right before Thanksgiving (worst timing ever), so I can add the holiday break to my recovery time since I am a teacher. I am still not sure if this surgery because the side effect stories scare the heck out of me!

I love sports, reading, and am looking forward to revisiting the active lifestyle I used to live. Hoping this surgery can get me there!

Anyone looking for a surgery buddy?

Greetings and Salutations!

Valerie here. I am 49 years old, have a supportive husband of 15 years and a 7 1/2 year old son. I have been overweight for officially now half my life. When I was in my early 20's I used to model and run 10-12 miles a day. After years of food abuse to my body, the thought of exercise makes me cringe. I know that is going to have to change. I am afraid now. About 2 years ago I started to get heart palpitations and went in for a cardiac cath and guess what? instead of no heart I actually have an oversized one. So the doc put me on heart meds and prediabetic meds and told me to lose 100lbs. 2 years later I lost 25 and gained it back. and I am feeling like crap physically and I can't sleep during the night because I hear my heart punding so loud when I lay down. So. here we are. I just got scheduled for the sleeve surgery to be done on Nov 20th 2012. I have my pre-op on Nov 8th. So this will be life changing. I am excited and scared at the same time. This is certainly a reality check for me, because now that I am having the surgery there are no more excuses. I know the surgery is supposed to put the brakes on for corrective eating, but what about the reasons I have been eating unhealthy all of these years? I look forward to the support that I hope you all can provide. Look forward to your responses. Have a great day.

I started my clear liquid diet today. Surgery will be next Wed. Hope I can handle this diet. So far it is not bad but I am sure it will get harder later.

Friday night we have a big restaurant of the month meeting with my scuba club. I am trying to figure out how to handle that without looking obvious. Any suggestions beside just not going?

Hello!

I had my sleeve surgery October 1, 2012. I cant believe that my surgery came and went so fast. I had surgery because I was tired of feeling 10 years older than my true self, I am 27. Yes, I can say that my weight has held be back from being and becoming the person I want to be or invisioned myself as, but I have lived a good life. Starting at a young age, I always knew I was bigger than the rest of the kids. At age 9, I was 150lbs, 12 years old, pushing 200, by high school, I was over 250 and I graduated, over 300lbs. I dont blame my mother for all the delicious food she prepared over the years, I have a younger brother and sister, both are athletic and pretty normal, maybe its just genetics or my obsession with mac and cheese.

I dont want the scale to rule the rest of my life...What I want to get out of this surgery is having a healthy, fullfilling life, where my looks dont control how I feel, inside or out. My goal is to get under 200lbs for now, maybe around the 170 to 180 range. I dont know how it feels to be under that weight, So when we get there, I'll see how it feels. :D

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
