Look for me on face book. Carolyn sue ellis. Same picture. It is an older surgery group, most had procedure done last summer. Lots of good info as we have all gone through it and are on other side. I will be glad to invite you to our secret page. Please remember it is an open talk group. Nothing is not asked or answered. Maybe sometime too much info is shared but you don't have to read or comment.

Carolyn, I am sending you a friend request as well. I know your post is a bit old, but it is new to me.

I am also a 'low' BMI at 33%. 5"9 and currently sitting at 205 lbs after losing and regaining the same 50 lbs 3x in the last five years. While I have high blood pressure and sleep apnea due to the weight, my mother died at age 63 of a heart attack and every woman in my family is well over 40% and I am fighting tooth and nail to not get there myself. While it might seem crazy to some to consider doing this for such little weight, for me, I cannot think of not doing this. This is about controlling an out of control freight train. IMO.

And just for comparison...once upon a time I was 135 lbs. I would be happy just to get to 145 and a healthy BMI of 23%

I read all 16 pages of this thread on my phone and loved them all! I am 29 5'2 with a bmi 33-35 183-188 depending on the scale, time, day or month. I had been going back and forth on what dr to go with but while reading this thread I placed my deposit for dr Garcia on 5/31. My whole family has obese with diabetes, hbp, strokes, heart disease well you name it they got it. I am revising from the lapband to sleeve and started out well and but started having problem with pain and vomiting. With the lapband I told my parents and my sister and of course my husband but didn't get the support I intended especially from my sister. She is very critical and thinks she has all the answers. So none of them will be told about the surgery. My husband is starting to come around. I told him if he wasn't going to be supportive then I didn't want him to go with me and I would do it alone. He has some time to get use to it. I too am tired of being told " you're not that fat". The fact of the matter is that I am and that I am heading down the road of taking 20 pills a day like the rest of my family because they refuse to do anything about their weight. As for the stupid comments I would like to add mine. My husband is 6'1 and 165 pounds. A stick! Many years ago (we've been together since I was 15 and 117 pounds) after I have put on much "love" weight we saw someone we knew from high school and she said well I know who's been eating everything at your house! It took everything in me not to beat the crap out of her! Lol

Good luck to everyone and let's keep this one going!

Stefani - can I ask why you have switched from Dr Garcia? PM me if you would rather. Is there more than one Dr Garcia in Tijuana?

I'm still going to Dr.Garcia, that's who I paid my deposit for. I'm not sure if there is more than one but I'm going to Dr. Fernando Garcia in TJ.

OH...got it. I saw your profile had changed from Garcia to Hollis.

I am waiting to hear back from both Ramos-Kelly and Garcia right now.

Oh ok. VST and LBT (lapband talk) are apart of the same. Hollis did my lapband so not sure why it did that but I will change it. Thanks Lisa!

My surgery is scheduled for May 6th with Dr. Lopez in Mexico. My BMI is 34.4 and I want to lose about 75 pounds. I'm at 200 right now, but I know I could never get rid of the weight on my own. In the past, I have been able to drop20-25 pounds, but I always put it back on and then gain 10-15 more. I just want to live life and stop worrying about losing weight.

Kristen125....I was pretty much the exact same stats as you are. I remember like it was yesterday all the research I was doing right before and a yr out. I also went to Dr Lopez....not sure if its the same one though.......it has been a great decision with one down side....and I do mean only one....going out to eat is totally different. My husband use to finish his dinners first and have o wait for me, when ow I'm the one picking on small stuff and getting full before appetizers are done....when dinner was finish I wold ALWAYS have o have dessert now, I can't physically or mentally want the stuff....but this also cuts short our convo time. He only gets off during the week so it was used as our "us time" now we're spending more time at home, me cooking (which ironically I've been cooking up a storm....don't know why) and or just finding things to do as a family. We've joined the YMCA as a family so that we can now use that time to go swimming. All I can say is the physical stuff you can get use to but things like that you have o mentally prepare to be stronger.....this surgery now only changes our body but over time it helps ou get a control over your mind as well....which is what usually led us to the over eating in the first place.......my husband has been very supportive during this process...he's even mentioned how inspiring and proud he is of me bc when I was denied by the insurance comp....got the money together in five days booked my surgery and flight in MX and went on my own......but you have to remember its a learning process for them also. If you need any further info let me know.....I too learned from others before me

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
