I'm Scared But Excited

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am scheduled for surgery 1/12/12.I am going to T.J. and my surgeon will be Dr. Almanza.

I guess what I'm most afraid of is waking up from surgery and the day that follows.I was wondering if your throat is sore?Do you have pain swallowing? What about nausea.I HATE NAUSEA more than anything!

I'm also afraid that I'm going to be ravenously thirsty at some point just being able to sip little sips.

Mostly though I am excited. I am soooo ready for my life to change for the better.I have been fat so long now I can't remember what it felt like not to be.

I weigh about 330 right now.

I have always been a very slow looser in the past.Has anyone had problems NOT loosing weight with this surgery?I just can't seem to imagine loosing steadily and at a clip.I keep thinking in the back of my mind "yeah it works for everyone else but........"

My surgery was 8 days ago and I feel pretty good now. The first 4 days were bad.. I'm not going to lie... Day 5 and 6 I noticed alot of improvement from the first 4 days.. My throat did not hurt at all. I did not have any nausea either. I just had my one week appt with my dr and he said I'm doing GREAT!! I've lost 8.5 pounds in 8 days!! My right side does hurt and I can not sleep very comfortably but that is getting better also..

I have not been thristy because I have eaten popsicles non stop.. Stock up on them, you will want and need them.. Plus they are pretty tasty tongue.png Hang in there - you made a wonderful decision that is going to change your life for the better!!

Tinette, I had surgery at about your same weight. I was 337 the day of surgery, so I may be able to speak from experience. I did NOT wake up with a sore throat and I've had very little nausea. I haven't actually slimed at all, although I have been over-full a couple of times. That's a feeling I don't want to experience again! :)

My worst pain was in my legs because I tried to compensate with my thigh muscles for what my tummy couldn't do. I had the same pain when I had c-sections with my kids.

Just follow the rules: sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk. That will keep you hydrated and will help dissolve the gas to relieve the gas pain. It will be better than you expect!

Good luck with your journey!! :)

Yes my throat was verry sore and I had trouble swallowing for about 5 days because I woke up with a ng tube. I had to keep the tube in for 2 days. I hated it. I'm fine now and you will be too.

Sleeved 10 days ago. Woke up in Recovery with terrible nausea, but I haven't had it since. Throat was sore for about 3 - 4 days, and I'm able to sleep on my side now, but I had my gall bladder out, too, which causes more pain. I feel great, I have no buyer's remorse, and the surgeon already has me on mushies. You'll do well.

I woke up with a naseau but it was gone in a few hours. I had no pain of any type, ever. It was awesome, I felt like I didn't even have surgery. I know I was lucky and everyone is different. No matter what you have to go through, it's all worth it. This has been the best thing I have ever done for ME.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
