Stall + Gain A Month After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I lost 42 lbs prior to surgery

2 weeks after surgery I was down another 15 lbs.

3 weeks after surgery I was down another 5 lbs

Tomorrow will be 4 weeks after surgery and I am UP almost 1 lb

So I guess this is a stall?

and is it normal to gain during a stall???

I know I have to do better with my Water forsure. I am getting lots of Protein. But not doing so good with the water.

and I know I also need to get better with walking more....I have had a lot of pain, so walking too much hurts.

Lily, don't live and die by that scale. I weigh myself every day as well, but that scale can crush your heart if you let it. I typically weigh more at night than in the morning, and I gain a pound or two when I hit TOM.

And, when I am stalled, I do see fluctuations on the scale. I've posted before that I bounced between 299 and 295 for over a week before the scale finally settled at 294. I think most of us do that, but many don't see it because they are able to stay off the scale! :)

1 pound could be the extra Water you drank yesterday, or that you haven't had a BM today. Don't let 1 pound scare you. Now, if it's 4 or 5 up from a weight you held for a few days, then you need to reexamine how you're eating/drinking, but I doubt you're done losing yet! :)

Lily

It is possible to gain at any time. It really depends on what you're taking in. It might be a good idea to keep a food diary and check on your caloric intake. It's so easy to take in more calories than you need and reverse the weight loss.

If you are taking in too many calories, one tip I have is to add some chia seeds to your drinks, they are low in calories, good for health, and make you feel more satisfied and fuller than a mere drink. Sort of turns a liquid into something thicker and more satisfying. You can also make good Desserts with them for very little caloric input.

Another tip: if carbs have always been your enemy, they will still be. Don't eat rice, bread, potatoes etc in any amounts or they will definitely stall at or best or even add weight. It happened to me.

Good luck

Marcia

Bristle, I've been told to avoid all seeds until I am at least six months out from surgery because there is a remote danger that they could get caught in the healing tummy. Even seeds like the ones in strawberries are to be avoided from what my Nut told me. I know nothing about chia seeds, just wanted to pass that info along.

I was sleeved on 11/8/11 and the weight was coming off so fast. After my two week post op visit, everything came to a halt and my weight was going up and down. This made me crazy! What happened, did I break my sleeve?!?! My PCP, surgical PA and my NUT told me to calm down, weight loss is like a staircase, keep following the diet and it will change! I had lost more than the average person my first two weeks and my body was trying to keep up! Sure enough, I broke the stall and am back to loosing! Hang in there, it is true, it will break! My NUT told me to add more Protein during a stall too.

Thanks everyone!

I guess a stall is a good reminder to make sure you are doing everything right.

There are deffinatly some things I can do better.

So I will take this time to focus on my Water & Protein AND get on a walking program.

Im not weighing until NEXT monday and see what happens.

the dreaded 3-5 week stall strikes again! Do a search on the 3 to 5 week stalll and you will see that every sleever experiences this and every one gets through it.

My best advice to you is to walk away from the scale for 10 days if you can manage it. The scale may not move again until then and you don't want to drive yourself crazy over it. You will break through it and you will lose the weight. Calories in < calories burned = weight loss no matter which way you cut it.

Concentrate on staying hydrated and feeding yourself through recovery. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
