18 Days To Gastric Sleeve Surgery..but Who's Counting

Recommended Posts

So I have a few days before my pre op diet starts, should I start early or take this time to satisfy my every taste bud with every restaurant that I've ever loved. I am torn,,I feel like I have this extra child and need to give him/her up or like part of me will be dying and I need to do a food bucket list. Do others feel this way? How are you overcoming and getting passed the food funerals?

Hello, sister sleever! I think a lot of people feel that way, that's way they gain weight before surgery :) For me, as much as I would have loved to eat everything in sight before surgery, I knew I had to lose that 13 lbs pre-surgery so it's forced me to keep it in check. And since my Dr doesn't require the 2 week pre-op diet I knew I had to kick it into high gear to get those lbs off. There's no way I'm going to take the chance of showing up for surgery and having it be delayed because I hadn't lost the required amount of weight. Too risky!

I'd say pick your all time favorite place to eat and go there once. I did that with my sisters and I do not regret it. In fact, my place was an all you can eat seafood buffet, and I ate let me tell you! And surprisingly I didn't gain any weight from it. Don't let yourself go, you've worked to hard. Go out to your favorite place and be sensible.

  1. Gotcha..I will say this past week has probably been enough for me. I've eaten at a few of my favs so I decided as soon as I posted this, to start on something. I'm journaling what I take in and incorporating Protein in slowly before the 13th. I'll eat a sensible dinner and have a healthy snack in between. On the 13th, I'll be on 2 Meal Replacements and then 1 meal consisting of lean protein and non starch vegetables (rabbit food...how exciting) I do love veggies but goodbye pizza and Pasta, goodbye loaded cheeseburgers, goodbye chocolate and goodbye ice cream. I'm going to be doing some creative shake making.lol

You know, you don't really have to say goodbye to all those foods. You just won't be able to eat as much of them post-op as you can now. You might not even want them post-op, once sleevie kicks in and starts working his magic!

However, I was reading your post about pizza, cheeseburgers and the seafood buffet and none of them sounded yummy! It's literally about protein/not Protein for me. Not to say that I don't enjoy a good piece of pizza or a cheeseburger, and goodness knows that I love me a few shrimp, but I don't crave foods very often at 3 months out.

We all panic and think we'll never be able to eat "x food" again, but that's not true. You are making a lifestyle change, so food won't be good or bad. It will just be food. It's like clothes, you can wear whatever clothes you like and that fit you, with no need to wear purple because it's a "bad" color. Food is the same. You can eat whatever you wish to eat once you are through the liquid diets. The major difference is that you won't be able to eat as much after being sleeved, just like you won't be wearing a 3x shirt afterwards. You won't need it.

I hope that made some sense. LOL :)

Lissa,,thanks for the info because it does feel good to know that we will be able to eat those foods again,,but in moderation and much smaller amounts. I just meant during this liquid stage I have to say goodbye. It will be hard to say no when I have to cook for a husband and kids but I'm a creative cook so I will make the best of it. When I can have that one Protein and veggie meal..it will be full of flavor and I think it will be fulfilling. I'm going on motivation right now so I have that going for me. For so long I've been depressed and unmotivated,,you just get no where when you get like that. I have my head in the game now and I will be pushing hard to get what I want from all of this. My biggest goal is to get off of meds and have fun with my family..so that's the biggest motivation. Keeping my eye on the prize!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
