To Everyone 4-6 Weeks Out Gastric Sleeve Surgery- Wanna Compare?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am just curious how my weight loss compares since surgery on 10/25

I think my weight the day before surgery was 254. (I need to confirm this with my surgeon!)

My weight now is 236

18 lbs.

What are your stats if you had surgery about the same time?

OR if you have a log book that you wrote what you were at 4 weeks -post op, refer to it and tell me :)

Hey Tiffany-Congrats on your success. I was sleeved Oct. 18th. I was 230 the day of my surgery (down a good 15 from the pre-op diet). I'm at 6 weeks out and weigh 215. My two week check up was 222.

When I had my consultation in Sept. I was at 254. Sooo...15 lbs since the sleeve.

How are you doing with food? I've not had any food issues. I do worry that I'm able to eat more than I should for this stage. 1/2 -3/4 of a cup is very doable. Trying to stay focused on Protein first and a bite of a veg or soft dairy after.

I was 290 at pre-op diet and 282 day of surgery. Today I am 263 so that is 19 pounds lost since surgery. My surgery was October 31st.

I struggled at first with Water, but I can drink that now. I am still having issues with my Multivitamin. It's usually a 50/50 chance if it is gonna stay down. :-(

Congrats to all of you and thanks for replying.

Alot of variance I see!

Monisue - I am able to eat more than I would think I should be able to as well - of some things - but I do feel very restricted. I can eat almost 3/4 a cup too - and I find that to be about 3-4 oz. which is actually pretty typical my Dr. said.

I am having trouble staying away from junk food and stopping myself from grazing and snacking especially in the evening. I finally got rid of most of the junk food in my pantry just 2 days ago and that has helped. I am still snacking on things like popcorn, ice cream, popsicles (not always sugar free). I suppose if I got rid of those too I would not snack on them... I had not had any of the nauseau or vomitting others claim - so I am not limited in what I can eat at all. Although for the last 3 days, when I ate my regular scrambled eggs for Breakfast, i got horribly nauseaous. Very tickly mouth and salivating profusely- ran to sink - but nothing happened - weird.....

OK - I am making a commitment to myself - today I will throw away ALL the NOT SF popsicles, all the icecream and all the popcorn in my house!!!

And all the cake batter too!! (yes, I will make a small bowl of it mixed with just Water to eat like pudding!! UGH, the horrible habits of fat people right?)

And the package of cookie dough in the fridge too - its going in the trash.....

(Whew- admitting I was snacking on this crap still has really made me accountable)

****. I really thought the sleeve was going to be 'magic' and make it easy - but this is just as hard as any other diet I ever did.

I sure hope that once I loose the weight the sleeve keeps me from gaining it back. Maybe that is where the magic lies?

Does anyone know if the sleeve can be revised to a bypass of any kind?

My doc said that if my GERD got worse because of the sleeve then the resolution is the bypass so I would say that yes, they can revise to a bypass.

I also thought that the sleeve would be magical in that it would take away my constant physical hunger. It did up until about a week ago. I have days where I can almost finish a whole chicken breast with no issues at all and be hungry an hour and a half later. I am snacking, topping off, and grazing too. I catch myself doing it and stop but it's almost subconsious. My husband will point it out too which makes me mad at the moment but I thank him later. (Thankfully he knows it my food addiction talking at the moment and not me.) I feel hungry again just like I did pre-op and I hate it. GB would not solve this for me because my body just produces too much Ghrelin and too little Leptin (I think that's the one that gives the not hungry signal).

I did notice one thing you said in your last post that you may need to rethink. You called beeing sleeved a diet. Diet to me means that I have to deprive myself. It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. Change your thinking and this may help. It's sort of like the difference between visiting another town and actually living in that other town. Visiting means you're going back home whereas living there means an adjustment to your lifestyle.

I hope this helps.

Hi-

I am eating about four times a day. Just came off of restricted foods and now can eat anything. But what has been the most comfortable for me has been cream of wheat with a little butter, sugar, and lactose free milk. About a third or half cup cooked. Protein Shake, Jay Robb chocolate 2 scoops with one T. of hazelnut chocolate spread-no sugar added, and half of a small banana, and almond milk and about 4 ice cubes well blended. Drink half, save half for later. Small cup of nonfat greek yogurt. And the second half of Protein. And now, i will pick off my husbands plate for dinner. I have not started my exercise yet. Have not had the energy too. But now that I am on solids, I expect that to change. Plus I wanted to lose about twenty and give my stomach a bit of time to heal before i started bouncing around.

It is like a diet to me. I don't like that part of it. I cant change my frame of mind. Maybe in time.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
