I am always freezing too and prior to surgery I was the one at the office with my fan running when everyone else was running their heaters. :smile1: But, I wouldn't trade my sleeve for anything. I've lost 43 lbs in 11 weeks and already left diabetes and high blood pressure far behind me.

I know right??? I just bought a new fan right before my sleeve for my little cubie. I think I've used it 1 time since. That said, I nice warm heater is in order here!

@favored - It's close!!

Let's see.... constantly sweating vs. chilly and in need of a sweater?

Thinking....

Thinking....

Thinking...

Oh yeah... you can always put more clothes on, but you can't always take more off! That settles it. :)

I'm usually the person who is always cold, until I started working in the office I work at! It is always so hot and my little fan doesn't help one bit! I wouldn't mind running colder.. At least then I wont feel like the fat girl complaining about being hot! I'm still wearing flip flops to work because to me it is so hot in that office.

I too am cold and as I've discussed before I started feeling so IMMEDIATLY after surgery. I went from walking around San Diego in 60 degree weather wearing shorts sweating beads to waking up post surgery shivering, so it's from something other than just fat loss. This summer was brutally hot for weeks on end and I literally had to stop and think "Yeah it IS hot" whereas prior to WLS I was hot in virtually ANY temp, I used to actually LOVE to get cold occasionally.

One issue I've have post op that I really hate is the consistant issues with kidney stones due to reduced Water intake immediatly post-op, unfortunatly I've had to go from drinking LOTS of Water to drinking a rediculous amount of water just to prevent them. I have to urinate so often it's really annoying, especially getting up to go 2 or 3 times each night, my old issue of Constipation is back with a vengance too, for some reason I just seem to pass most of the Fluid rather than adsorb it.

Agreed Rootman, the coldness started immediately for me too. Being I was so used to feeling overheated all the time to freezing - I wasn't used to it. I say I'm still not...

Question: is there any help with that kidney stone issue? I mean, will it ever go away? That has me curious.

I was always cold ...my fat layers NEVER insulated at all! They were just plain old fat layers!

I love my sleeve! I do still have the head hunger but it doesn't take much to satisfy when something evil  is calling my name. Oh and my mind tells me ( :blah:) sometimes that when we go out to eat that I am hungry enough to eat a big girl plate and my emotions make me want to throw a big fit if I don't get to order my own plate instead of sharing like a child. My hubby knows just to let me order my plate and waste our precious hard earned dollar(s) so he doesn't have to listen to me have a melt down. Then....as if... I didn't know I had the sleeve surgery, my brain turns back on after about 2 or 3 bites and says...OH MY GOSH, there's no way I can eat any more of this. I mean really, I've wasted some money on this problem a couple of times since surgery. :frusty: What a great problem to have!!!! Did I say I love my sleeve?

And most of the time, I don't feel like that. Then we share and save lots of money AND I'm satisfied because for the most part, most of the time, I'm not hungry and I eat because I have to. Oh yeah, that's a huge problem too...you know, not being hungry most of the time.

So yeah, you have problems when you have the sleeve.....BUT I love my problems!

My con-and one I'll just have to get used to-is that food doesn't taste as good when you only take a tiny bite and have to chew it to death. But i think that is definitely a con I can live with.

Sometimes, you get funny looks about what you eat from people that knew you before the sleeve. :(

I was always freezing and still am. Curious about how I will feel during our Minnesota summer. Also, out on my motorcycle....hmmmmm?

Con- trying to understand all the post diet stuff. I think some of my decreased ability to comprehend came from the drastic reduction in calories. I sort of feel off. I am clearing up lately but keep in mind I spent the first 3 weeks severely fatigued despite sleeping normally. I believe it was my body's response to surgery and it trying to heal itself.

No regrets tho, just challenges.

I've got a friend of mine (one of the smartest men I know) who had kidney stone issues. He swears by lemonaid or lemon Water daily. Something about the acidity of the citrus helping break those stones up or something. He said his recipe was diabetic friendly (since he was dealing with that for awhile) so I can probably get the recipe from him if you're interested.

I've always said I'd rather be cold than hot because you can always put on more clothes but when you strip down to skin? Not much more you can do. LOL Although post-sleeve this is ridiculous!! I typically go sit outside in the morning with the dogs, have my coffee and read a little. That's my wake up routine. The last few mornings I've had to put on a hat, gloves, a long robe length zip up hoodie thing (with the hood up over my hat), on top of my fleece pjs!! It's only been in the mid to low 50s too. It's going to be miserable when it gets truly cold lol. But this summer? LOL I can't wait to be able to wear the J Family "summer uniform". Whenever we BBQ and his family comes over, it's always hilarious to see because his mom and all 3 brothers are always wearing shorts and a sleeveless. I've started calling it the J Family summer uniform. I've always been odd man out for obvious reasons but it's going to be fun next summer.

Let's see - "Downside" of the sleeve:

- You will be tempted to spend $$$ buying a wardrobe of new, sexy clothes once you get to goal (in additon to all of the in between sizes)

- You will spend a bunch of time going through your old clothes to find what fits, and getting rid of "fat" clothes and you shrink out of them

- You will get LOTS OF ATTENTION as you are shrinking (and when you are at goal - I'm not there yet).

- You will be COLD - but sweaters look really nice on thin people!

I think these are the "worst" of it. I LOVE MY SLEEVE.

I teach school and ALWAYS have an oscillating fan on, windows open, and short sleeves. Kids have to wear parkas in my room! Lol, hoping to break that cycle after surgery!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
