Telling Family About Gastric Sleeve, Feeling Uneasy!

Recommended Posts

When I decided on the sleeve I started with the hubby. His response was "If that's what you want, do it". After him and I were on the same page I began to tell the siblings, my mom and my best friend. I was completely honest and told them I would listen to their concerns and answer all the questions I could. But it was MY decision in the end an I wasn't searching for approval! My family and I are very opinionated so I was expecting a fight. But to my surprise they have been 100% on board! They all keep checking on me making sure I do all my pre-op requirements and have already started planing for life after the sleeve. I have to say it's nice to have their support but even if I didn't have it my decision would still be the same regardless. It's true that all surgeries carry risk but the burden my family would have if I become diabetic and lost a limb or had a severe heart attack (which is a very real possibility) would be greater!

Hey there, I was sleeved a week ago so I have had some experience with a variety of reactions.

In the end, this decision was for me. Their opinions and feelings about it are just that, theirs.

They are your family and they love you and when you need a shoulder to cry on or an ear to complain to, they will provide. Just focus on your new life. You will be so happy once all is said and done and you know what? Happiness is contagious!!

Take care!!

I could have written your post MsKelly. This is why I tell people that love me and I don't get upset by their different responses. They are being honest and I appreciate that. In the end, they will most likely be there to support you whether "they get it" or not. Do what feels right to you Fireflyx. smile.png

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
